    Vented central heating, tank overflowing

The cisterns are on the same level next to each other. I suppose the pipes may be different heights though i'll have a look next time I'm up there and see if I can figure out which pipe is which. I've been running X800 for a few hours overnight and will be draining and flushing shortly. I...

    Vented central heating, tank overflowing

Thanks guys. I will check the things you've mentioned to get a measure of what and where is sludged up. The magnet trick sounds fun and I have a thermal camera gadget that plugs into a smartphone I will dig out - it might help too. The system is about 25 years old at a guess.

    Vented central heating, tank overflowing

I did wonder why i'm not seeing any dirty water out of the hot taps. Interestingly since I last posted and the heating and hot water has been off the level of that tank has gone down again so it may just have been expansion of water& air that I saw causing the level to rise after all (feed is...

    Vented central heating, tank overflowing

I've done a lot of reading here on similar threads and think I know what's up but I would like to double check my understanding. Recently the overflow pipe from the feed tank that tops up the central heating loop has been leaking into the garden. The water is black which suggests corrosion. I...

What are the current trends in en-suites/bathrooms?

Thanks for the replies. I will try to avoid temptation to go OTT and keep it neutral as suggested. I'm very tempted to go for a panel in the shower, less grout to clean and I like the clean looks though some people have declared they look cheap (probably depends on the type). I have my eye...

What are the current trends in en-suites/bathrooms?

I'm renovating our en-suite and to be frank I don't care that much what it looks like or features it has because i'm a fairly simple bloke but I want it to be desirable to other people for when we sell the house in a year or so. What are people expecting in a high spec ensuite these days...

Slipped tiles, gap in felt (pics)

Thanks, that makes sense that they should overlap. In my case it's deteriorated so doesn't overlap any more. Had a roofer out and he never mentioned fixing the felt at all, i'm going to get another guy out. Since I had problems a few years ago in the same spot i'd like someone to be really...

Slipped tiles, gap in felt (pics)

Inside of roof by Danno1800 posted 24 Feb 2020 at 2:33 PM Inside the roof there is ripped felt which is caused by slipped tiles because I can see daylight from inside. The felt is tucked behind the wooden beam there but it's not attached to anything. This is where the two slopes of the roof...

    Dripping taps and hard water

Both my cold and hot tap went within a year of each other but i'm not actually in a hard water area.

    Dripping taps and hard water

Ceramic tap valves are a pain for the reason you state, they are often hard to find exact replacements for. In theory they are better than the normal washer valves and are supposed to last for yonks but the opposite is often true. You can in theory open them up, clean them and reuse them but...

Can't figure out what these 2 pipes are for (pic inside)

CH has been getting worse over the last few years so there's a few things wrong with it that we put up with (couple of radiators not heating, sheared off bleed valves, 3 port valve has to be manually activated). But now only a couple of upstairs radiators get luke warm now we are putting on...
