    Roof tile cuts

Freddy, just wondering what your thoughts are regarding regulation 7 Workmanship and Materials? As far as I can tell in this instance inappropriate materials have been used (i.e. roof tiles used well below manufacturers minimum roof pitch), unfinished parts of roof just OSB board in...

    Roof tile cuts

Thanks for that Freddy. I kind of figured that they couldn't be held responsible for the level of workmanship. The customer just can't believe that a building control approval note had been issued for a roof in such a dire state. The roof in question had been the subject of major loft...

    Roof tile cuts

Hello all, couple of quick questions regarding building control notice. I have just had to look at a roof that has been given a building control notice of completion etc but am wondering how or why? If roof tiles (in this case plain tiles) are cut smaller than the size laid out in the...

Roofing felt is sticking out. Is that normal?

As mentioned eaves trays should have been installed. The felt does eventually perish in the sun. Whats going to hold the bottom row of copper rivets in for the long run I wonder? Another fibre cement roof done to manufacturers recommendations then! DaveJ

    What Kind Of Roof?

£2500 is a bit steep for 23 square meters. As mentioned no need for marine ply. 18mm OSB is adequate plus has no structural voids in it. Re-roof falls under building regs for thermal reasons - most people won't mention this to you. Insulation will probably work equally as well on pitched or...

    Asbestos pipe from concrete firplace

Cheers John. Was thinking that myself actually, but then was wondering where the hell the air gets into the pipe under the ground outside? having just had another look at it there is not fall on it either so if it was a drain it wasn't a very efficient one :o Will try and take a picture of...

Hello all, i am having to take my front room floor up to tackle some serious damp issues. The previous owner of the property removed the original fireplace and chimney from the house. below the wooden floor there is an old concrete footing/plinth the fireplace must have stood on from this...

It is type of rubber basically. Few places on the web sell it for DIY use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPDM_rubber Gives a basic description. Cheers DaveJ

Over Door canopy repair advice please

Go with Woody's suggestion. USe EPDM as it looks great and will never need doing again. Felt will eventually go brittle crack (look like s**t) and leak. Cheers DaveJ

    Foundation help

Thanks for reply. Was thnking the same really myself - think neighbour thought it might save time. In the long run I thnk it will cost more time and trouble than its worth. We didn't dig down as there was an almighty biblical style downpour just as we were finishing removing wood. We almost...

    Foundation help

Hello all. Just helped the neighbour take down his very rotten wooden conservatory (just leant on it and over it all went in a pile of powder!). Anyway, this was built on a slab foundation which looks like it was just poured on top of the ground (though it is about 6inches thick at least)...

    A laboured query maybe...???

As you suspect and as Woody mentioned a 30 square metre sheet will be a good old weight - if it is a single sheet it will weigh in in excess of 35 kilos I should think! If it is a single sheet you use and it is folded rather than rolled then be careful unfolding it on the roof if there is a...
