    The problem with the mixer tap is its pretty much open or shut. I closed the cold supply to the boiler a touch and it seems to have done the trick.     Thanks for the advice, by close off do you mean just via the thermostatic valve or lockshield aswell?? having had a quick look on youtube to balance I should shut the lockshields then open them up a 1/4 turn??

    Just had another look and it was modulating relay that I was connecting to when the pilot went off, bearing in mind the power was off?? possibly some kind of fail safe?? Its as if the coil is failing to pull in, hence only staying lit when i'm manually holding it in??
