Wiring for E27 batten lamp 100w halogen

Thanks for the response. The only query that I have now is where do I attach the earth wire at the batten light end as it is made of plastic. Do I use the third hole that someone suggested could act for a 'loop' or can I attach the earth to the screw that holds the batten light to the wooden...

Wiring for E27 batten lamp 100w halogen

Thanks for the response. This is the holder. I will fix the lead secure so that only the plug can push into the socket of the extension lead. It is for my shed and will be used very infrequently. From what is said the live will go to the middle and no earth necessary. Do I still need to use flex?

Wiring for E27 batten lamp 100w halogen

I have an E27 batten lamp holder for a 100w halogen bulb. I want to attach an electrical wire to it with a plug on the end. The idea being that I plug it in to use it. The holder has 3 holes at the back for the wiring to be attached. My question is two fold: what size wire do I use (ie 1.5mm...

    Electricity to my shed

Thanks AndyPRK, that makes sense. The extension cable will only be used when I need light in the shed and that will probably be less frequent than I use the lawn mower. I just want something a bit more robust than a torch.

    Electricity to my shed

Am I wrong in thinking that a temporary supply is not part of the regulations. The cost otherwise would be prohibitive for such occasional use.

    Electricity to my shed

I have a new 8x10 shed which will be used for storage of mower, tools, paint etc - it will not be used as a workshop, office, summer house or anything else. However I want to put a light in it and a double socket for things like the mower, charging hedge cutter, drill and such. The shed is 8...

Glow Worm Ultimate 50FF PCB Problem

My Glow Worm Ultimate 50FF boiler will not start. Nothing happens when activated. When I unscrewed the PCB, I tapped the string of electrical connectors and, at a certain point, the neon light glows and the boiler starts and works OK. After a short time (an hour or two) the unit stops working...

Glow Worm Ultimate Boiler Not Working

I read somewhere that the fan should start and then ignition. This isn't the case. There is no indication that the fan starts. All I hear is the click/crack noise and then nothing. Do you still think it is the ignition or could there be a fan fault. Thanks

Glow Worm Ultimate Boiler Not Working

I have a 10 tr old Glow Worm Ultimate boiler for my hot water and central heating. 1 year ago it had a faulty fan, which was replaced. Recently the boiler has not been working. Brit Gas were called and found no fault so they gave it a service. Since they left I had hot water for 1 week. Then I...

Wood frame with fire integrity query

Thanks for your reply Woody. The property has had a loft conversion and this is why the building inspector is involved. The window in question is above the stairs which is deemed a fire route hence the palavar. So do you think the existing 4''x2'' frame surround is ok to sit the glass on and...

Wood frame with fire integrity query

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone call help me. I'm fitting a borrowed light above my stairs - it is an internal window 1m x 1m. I'm aware that the glass has to have a minimum of 30 minute fire integrity - in better words it will hold out for 30 minutes in the event of a fire. I've already sourced the...

Do I need to use lining paper when wallpapering

I've never used lining paper before, when wallpapering, but the wallpaper that I am changing has lining paper underneath and 'she who is all knowlegable' thinks I should also use lining paper. Is it normal to use lining paper or is it only used for a purpose. If the walls are in good condition...

    Using Lining Paper When Wallpapering

I'm starting a big job at home of wallpapering newly plastered walls, and replacing some existing wallpaper on other walls. Someone said that I need to use lining paper before the wallpaper. Is this correct? What is the purpose of lining paper? If anyone can give advise I'd appreciate it...
