    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

wow, I thought this post had died a death!! I paid normal over the counter prices, for someone in the trade buying regular then I'm sure they'd get a good discount!! I don't rush a job, particularly if I've never done it before. The plate exchanger wasn't a direct swap and required some pipework...

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

That's sounds like half the workforce!!! The other half are pot bellied bald headed geriatrics.... I'm not sure which category I fit into??!!

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

I've just come off the 12 hr shifts but don't know the chap. Mind you, I'm stuck in outpost better known as B Site... Anyway, how dare you suggest we drink tea and sit down all day!!! I'd have you for slander..... If it wasn't true.....

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

I've spent maybe 10 hours in total on it and nearly half of that on the diverter valve issues. I'm neither expert nor engineer so took great care and time to not rush things. I paid public prices for the parts when trade get them alot cheaper. Someone who does this for a living on a daily basis...

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

 Sorry old boy, you couldn't be further from the truth. He spent all of 2 mins looking at the boiler, diagnosed a faulty gas valve and a quote of £300 to change. He also said it would be better to change the combi than repair it...

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

Well, the corgi (gas safe?) guy I called out didn't want to fix it. I dont like to waste peoples time so I fixed it myself...

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

A medal would be nice but I'm happy with the satisfaction that I doubt that any heating engineer would have gone to this length to save an otherwise good work working boiler... :D

    What a day! Combi 'fixed'!

I've spent the last two days working on my Worcester 280 combi. The symptoms were hot/cold DHW and occasional tripping out. I replaced the secondary heat exchanger for a plate exchanger (a Worcester upgrade) and put a new expansion vessel in. I fired it up last night and CH was good but had...

Hot water demand causing combi to trip..

Diverter valve is ok but noticed the expansion vessel is completely empty...is that good or bad? I'd have thought there'd be some water in there!!

Hot water demand causing combi to trip..

The original was a white bottle type but the replacement is a plate heat exchanger. Apparently this is a more efficient upgrade. The kit comes with plate HE and associated pipework required to fit this mod. The connections are correct, the thing virtually falls into place and all looks good to...

Hot water demand causing combi to trip..

I've just changed the secondary heat exchanger for a plate heat exchanger on my Worcester 280. I also changed a u/s expansion vessel as the bladder had perforated. Initial testing proved good (see previous topic!) but just found a bizzare fault when drawing hot water. Previous topic...

Combi pressure not dropping back down when cold

New plate heat exchanger and expansion vessel fitted and under test as I type. A few strange noises and a couple of leaks at first but all now stopped. It seems to be working better already but i'll need to address them leaks! Edit: There's a rushing water sound, not too dissimilar to when a...

Combi pressure not dropping back down when cold

I've got the expansion vessel and HE out. Something tells me water shouldn't flow out of the schrader valve?? :?:

Combi pressure not dropping back down when cold

I've not noticed it rise when cold but tbh the heatings been on most of the time! I know what you mean about the plate exchanger, the mains pressure is higher than the system pressure . Perhaps the hole/crack is small enough that at cold it's sealed and only opens when heated? I'm changing it...
