Suitability of external Expansion Vessel to Potterton Boiler

Hello, After shutting down our boiler (Oil fired Potterton Statesman Flowsure+) for the summer, came to check it over today before firing up and found loads of water (several cupfuls) coming out of the EXV valve head when I pressed it in. I also tried to pump it up with a foot pump when I...

Potterton Combi boiler driving me potty

Hi Chaps, Been away for weekend and this morning decided to do a test from stone cold to give you more comprehensive clues in the hope of bottoming this So this morning switched boiler on. Settings were CH constant demand, Boiler at 15deg and 0.8bar. Diverter valve was set at DHW position...

Potterton Combi boiler driving me potty

OK, but it only moves once when the boiler first gets to it's (too high) temperature, even though the boiler may be on for hours and demand is CH and occasional DHW. I would expect it to shuttle around quite often.

Potterton Combi boiler driving me potty

Thanks Tony. I have been trying to use the evidence available to try and sort the problem The reason for changing the stats is that the boiler was running hotter than normal so I believed that something had failed such that the boiler was being driven to a higher temperature and the stats were...

Potterton Combi boiler driving me potty

Yes but his direction can't be correct as the pump is pumping fine when I move the actuator lever to the manual latch position.(the rads then heat up...if the rads can heat up then pump must be OK) I've also removed the old valve actuator and the drive spindle to the mechanical part of the valve...

Hi just to update. I've now changed the boiler stat, tank limit stat and the heatstore stat, with no change to the boiler behaviour, any more thoughts please.

Potterton Combi boiler driving me potty

Thanks Tony, but if the rads heat up when the diverter valve is moved manually then this would suggest the pump is OK wouldn't it?

Potterton Combi boiler driving me potty

Hello, Our boiler is a Potterton Statesman Flowsure + Combi boiler. A few days ago woke up to cold radiators Checked boiler and boiler temperature gauge was showing boiler at 90deg (it usually runs at 65-70). When I moved the diverter valve arm to manual position, radiators got hot but boiler...

    Insulating Microbore central heating pipe

It would seem normal to insulate the above pipe, but I can't seem to find standard pipe insulation for less than 15mm pipe. Is it actually necessary to insulate bare 10mm pipe. If so, anyone know who keeps it.Thanks.

    Leaky Boiler valve.

These sound more like Gate Valves, but without seeing the one you've got I'm not sure. If it is a Gate Valve it will have a roughly circular handle of about 2inch diameter. When these are fully turned off (switch heating off first) you can then remove the handle (small nut on top) and undo the...

Gate Valves or Isolation valves for 22mm Flow and Return??

Giblets, many thanks, I've spotted the ones you mean in a catelogue. I'll use those.

Gate Valves or Isolation valves for 22mm Flow and Return??

The only valves I can find in the Flow and Return are on each side of the pump, which will be useful when time comes to change the pump. But they won't isolate the whole boier from the radiator system.
