    Designing Pergola Pitched Roof

Hi Guys, I am currently designing a pitched roof for a pergola in my back yard. I think it'll be useful to see the design first, so here's the link: https://s17.postimg.org/nftggm80v/pergola.png The span for the entire construction is approx 7.8m x 2.4m. The rafters are placed at 1.8m...

    Broken PEN conductor

I am talking under non-fault conditions. Obviously, under PEN fault the CPC will be at live potential.

    Broken PEN conductor

The CPCs are only dead though until someone touches them? Sure the resistance may be high but ultimately it is one jumbled parallel circuit. if under non-fault conditions I stood outside, bare foot, in a puddle, with wet hands, and touched a CPC I should at least have some current running...

    Broken PEN conductor

Looks like there is some ambiguity, surprised no one has come out with a device to mitigate such situations, however rare they are. Maybe a device that monitors L-N-E and trips if E > 50v? Also, something else that has been playing on my mind which I can't find an answer for elsewhere: in...

    Broken PEN conductor

Is there any viable method to test for and quickly identify issues that are instigated by a broken PEN conductor ? Obviously, this is a potentially fatal flaw with TN-C-S configurations, but how would you go about identifying it in the event it did arise ? I would imagine things would go into...

    Cut-out fuse cost

    SSE here too. Utterly preposterous.

    Cut-out fuse cost

Ha. New outbuilding, which renders the existing supply inadequate. Precisely, I will request further clarification on exactly what they are going to do. If it's 200 to swap a fuse, then I'll get haggling.

    Cut-out fuse cost

Hi Guys, Just got a quote from the DNO for 200 quid to up the cut-out fuse from 40 to 60. Sounds a bit steep?? How much do you guys usually expect to pay for a fuse upgrade? Not had many so I don't have much to go off. Allegedly, they were offering to do it for free not long ago.

    Electrics tripping

I would like to see a pic of the FCU wiring if possible. Do you happen to have a clamp meter laying around by any chance? That could aid in establishing current flow during operation. Also, why don't you get a spark in to diagnose it? We're all throwing stones in the dark as it currently stands.

    Electrics tripping

Fuse in the FCU ? I am not talking about the plug, but the wall socket the plug connects to. What's the make/model of the bidet ?

    Electrics tripping

Are there any patterns prior to the trip ? e.g. both bidet and shower being used at the same time. You mentioned you are pulling the bidet feed from the shower feed; what is the shower's power rating? There is a chance the wiring is done incorrectly, and when loads are applied in a certain order...

    Electrics tripping

Take a pic. There is no such thing as an RCB, unless it's a typo and you mean't an RCD, or an RCBO.

    Plastering advice

You can use a stop bead. Something like https://www.condell-ltd.com/expamet-thin-coat-plaster-stop-bead-length-3000mm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIivqOrqPV1gIVljLTCh1Z2gJ6EAQYASABEgI8uvD_BwE

    Newbie question - new ring

A fibre SAN for a home network? blimey, what are you doing with that ? or is it a part of your lab? I'm guessing it's on it own fabric. Do you have a network topology diagram? and an inventory of HW? and what work loads will you be putting your setup through? Remember that spec sheets give you...

    Newbie question - new ring

You sound very paranoid about a fire hazard. Dell gear is generally very good, and I've never heard of any enterprise gear bursting into flames. Server/Desktop gear usually has thermal throttling/shutdown built into it - all AMD/Intel CPUs have thermal throttling for example. Are you going to do...
