Hi Agile, Thankfully I'm not old enough to have a teenager! I was just considering a new product and thinking about how it might be of use to different people. I think people would have to be onboard with the idea, but most people are these days with the idea of saving money if not saving...

I pay the bills so I'd be happy to remember to do it, but if for example you rent rooms out, or have stroppy teenagers they might not want you going into their bedrooms to turn off their rads, and if you then forgot to turn them back on they'd be cold that evening. I think with new technology...

    soil pipe fall quick question

Thanks Nige! Building Regs are written so badly on so many fronts! Very happy to have that clarified, and back to my soil waste diagram again. I'm currently reading the paragraph on running boiler condensate, I know it isn't complicated, but you still need to read it at least twice because...

Ha ha, well I have no 'before' to tell you if they made an improvement. I worry about fitting untested technology, but I guess a couple won't break the bank.

    soil pipe fall quick question

A quick question- the Building Regs Part H give 'gradient limits' of 18-90mm per 1m length for soil pipes and 18-44mm for 40mm sink etc waste pipes. So does this mean that if the fall isn't vertical then the slope has to be within these two figures? As otherwise they would give a minimum...

Does anyone have experience of these? http://www.saveonheatingbills.co.uk/ They seem sensible. They look ugly! I need to buy thermostatic valves anyway so was thinking of putting a couple in. They only work when the heating system is on, so the benefit would be that during the day...

    second floor boiler?

I learn a lot from just reading through other people's threads on here, so I thought I'd post an update just in case someone is interested. The building inspector came today and said there is no problem having the boiler in the hallway, but because it is a protected stairwell the boiler needs...

    second floor boiler?

Thanks for that I just wondered if the movement of heat in the water, even when being pumped, would mean that the cold would always gravitate down. I did 2 science A levels as well, oh dear! I have worked out the BTU calcs for each room and sized radiators accordingly. As I'm laying pipework...

    second floor boiler?

Hello all, I am renovating a house and redoing pretty much all the plumbing. The CH system is being done from scratch. I have bought the ATAG 325ec boiler after recommendations on here and elsewhere, the question is where to locate it; The tidiest location for it is on the second floor...

    Wetroom

I'm not sure about vinyl, although I know it has improved a lot from the vinyl most people think of, I might see if rubber flooring would do it as an alternative to tiles, it'd keep the floor height down a bit. Thanks

    Wetroom

I'm planning on fitting a wetrooms in a house conversion. There is a lot of conflictiong information online but I have the following plan and comments from anyone with experience would be most welcome; 1- Existing timber floor joists (Room 1.9m x 1.7m) 2- 9mm to nothing firing strips laid...

    notching and drilling for cable

It is interesting actually as I presumed the drilling through the centre of the joists was to protect the structural integrity of the joist- which is why I didn't want to turn the joists into swiss cheese just because building regs said to drill holes. I haven't come across these protection...

    notching and drilling for cable

Hi, I've had an unofficial chat with a building control officer who recommended the firm I'm using because they are who the council use for testing. As far as Building Control are concerned so long as they have a completion and testing certificate they are happy. You make a valid point...

    notching and drilling for cable

Hi All, I am putting a loft conversion in my house and moving a few walls about internally, large sections of the house are being stripped back to the studwork. The current Distribution board needs replaced, and given that some of the circuits include a mixture of sockets across 2 floors...
