    Removing gas hob for replacement

Thanks, I'm going to call a gas safe registered chap who lives round the corner today, so those price ranges really will help.

    Removing gas hob for replacement

Hi All, I have a built in gas hob in my kitchen, and I intend to replace it with a freestanding gas cooker. Now I intend to get the new cooker installed by an gas safe engineer, but inbetween removing the old built in unit and installing the new one I need to do some other work to level...

    Leveling concrete kitchen floor

Hmm, I'm guessing you've not really understood. Of course I can lay lino on a sloped floor, but I want a level floor, then I'm going to put lino on it. So, once I've leveled it (because I want it level, not because it is physically impossible to lay lino on a slope) I want to lay lino on it...

    Leveling concrete kitchen floor

What I see is a black line in the mortor of the brickwork outside, where I'd usually expect a line of blue bricks, I'm fairly sure this is the dpc in the wall - it was just an optimistic assumption that perhaps it also goes under the concrete floor. My main concern is getting it level, if...

    Leveling concrete kitchen floor

Hi Chaps, I'm currently looking at doing up my kitchen, and I'd like a little advice about leveling up a sloped concrete floor. The concrete floor in question is in a single story extention that contains our kitchen, and adjoins flat wooden floorboards where the wall has been knocked...

    Safely moving wires in bathroom

Thanks guys. I'm not too sure of that yet - the reason being they go from the floor, up into the roof space, then through a wall into another roof space (it's kind of an existing extension, that's then been extended leaving the gable end dividing the roof spaces). They're quite thick...

    Safely moving wires in bathroom

Hi All, We have a small ground floor bathroom in a single story extension at the back of our 1930s semi. I'm looking at removing an airing cupboard next to our bath, but theres a couple of mains wires inside it and I'm wondering what the safest thing to do with them is. Below is an...

    Removing wire from consumer unit

Hi All, Thanks for all the advice. I've now removed the circuit from the CU and my worries are over.

    Removing wire from consumer unit

It's a "Steeple" branded CU with a single main switch, and has an inspection sticker saying it was fitted in 2003. From what you say it sounds pretty straight forward - I just need to make sure to be very careful.

    Removing wire from consumer unit

Just a thought, but is there a way I could wire the switch where the IH was so that if anyone were to flick the breaker back on it'd just trip again? Something like connect live neutral and earth together? Assuming that's not a mental thing to do, would that make the situation any safer...

    Removing wire from consumer unit

Thianks guys. There is a switch between the IH and the wire going off to the CU, but that switch is attached to the cupboard I want to remove, and the switch now has a massive hole in it where the plumber yanked the wires for the load side out. There is no switch between the meter and the...

    Removing wire from consumer unit

Hi Guys, We recently had our boiler replaced with a combi and I'm looking to remove the old airing cupboard where the tank used to be. One of my (many) issues is that the supply for the old immersion heater is still in there and live. After telling me it was still live the plumber...

Concrete lintel enough where external wall knocked through?

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reply. I can't see any crack nor any movement in the house, however; is there any way that we can get some reassurance that the lintel is adequate? You say calling in the building inspector would only open a can of worms, but won't the lack of paperwork cause...

Concrete lintel enough where external wall knocked through?

Hi Guys, My first post on these forums, so hi. I've recently bought a 1930s semi-detached house which has various modifications that I'm suspicious of and have no supporting paperwork. The one that concerns me the most is a lintel used to support an external solid brick wall that has...
