    Recommended SIPS sealant

Hi, is there a specific type or brand of sealant/mastic used for joining/sealing SIPS - or will any good quality builder's mastic be suitable? Many thanks in advance, Steve

    3 Phase motor running slow

I'd rather buy from a reputable company like RS, but can't find a motor with the correct overall combination of power, speed and dimensions. Assuming that the details are correct, this motor on ebay is an exact replacement - even though there are 2 different motors pictured...

    3 Phase motor running slow

It's only a 2.2kw, 3HP motor, I've found the same spec motor on ebay for less than £150. So, considering the amount of use it's going to get I'll probably go for that, although I'm not sure what the quality will be like at that price.

    3 Phase motor running slow

Thank you for your responses - yes it's a 3 phase supply, the machine is connected to the 3 phases and earth, there's no N connection, and there's no gear box. The three motors are identical with varying sized drive pulleys. I don't know how to test from phase to phase - swapping motors...

    3 Phase motor running slow

Hi, I wasn't sure where to ask for help and thought I'd try here - I need some advice on a 3 Phase motor that's running slow - I've got an old woodworking combination machine that's fitted with three small 3 phase 2.2kW motors. I tried to use the table saw earlier today but the motor's running...

    New toilet leaking when flushed

I never thought to check! It's only a couple of mm off, there's no glaze to the whole bottom half though. I've just found a McAlpine connector with jubilee clip, thank you, which looks like it should do the job according to the product reviews!

    New toilet leaking when flushed

The new loo I'm trying to fit is leaking at the pan connection - I've just fitted the third (different brands of) connector, this one seems the tightest yet, but there is still a slight leak after flushing. The pipe connection is good, it's nice and straight, nothing strained or stretched. I've...

    Kitchen fan

I just wanted to query my recent kitchen fan installation. I've had to have a 6" fan fitted through the kitchen wall as the extractor hood above the cooker isn't located near an external wall and ducting wasn't possible. The wall fan is connected to a switched fused connection unit...

Correct method of wiring a double socket

I only got around to reading your post last night and have just checked all of the TV sockets in the house - all but one are MK grid TV/DAB sockets (K5852DAB) which have an earth connection on the back, 2 are linked to the back box, 2 aren't - the aerial is located in the loft space above an...

Correct method of wiring a double socket

I thought it would be unsafe not to, there was a previous comment in the thread: 'There does not need to be a link from the earth terminal to the box if the box has one fixed lug, but it is considered good practice to do this.' All of the back boxes in my LAN, TV/audio and telephone...

Correct method of wiring a double socket

The replacement sockets are MK DP switched double sockets, I was a bit surprised to find that they only have one earth terminal.

Correct method of wiring a double socket

Thank you for all of the replies - I think I've got a pretty good idea of what to do now. The flexible earth connecting some of the back boxes is identical to the 2.5mm earth that runs in the conduit in the workshop - and was fitted by the same electrician. I'll replace it with single...

Correct method of wiring a double socket

I want to replace some double sockets but I'm not sure which is the correct wiring method. I've had three electricians work on our barn conversion and workshops over the past eight years, and each one has wired the ring main sockets differently. The first one twisted the pairs of wires...

Air brick for log burner in a new build

I think I'm going to leave it until we actually have the stove installed, as I'll probably only end up having to do the job again! Just out of interest though - I've got a 9" x 3" cast iron air brick that I was hoping to use. It has an area of 4,719mm2 (39 x 11mmx11mm holes) and assuming that...

What type of cable needed to connect an external sounder

So far all I've done is run 8 core screened cable to four areas of the house, all parallel cable runs are at least 600mm from mains cables with minimal crossings. Nothing is connected yet as I can't decide which alarm system to install. I'd like to run another cable to an adjacent workshop...
