Removed wallpaper, painted wall beneath covered in tiny cracks

Thanks again footprints. That product took care of the hairline cracks very nicely - here is an 'after' photo. Didn't do anything to fix larger defects, these needed to be filled and sanded, but there were only a few of these to deal with.

Removed wallpaper, painted wall beneath covered in tiny cracks

Oh, paint with a bit of polyfilla in it. That sounds like it might just do the job! Thanks very much, I'll pick up a tin from B&Q. I see that Wicks do an own brand one (https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Colour-%40-Home-Basecoat-Emulsion-Paint---White-5L/p/122435). I think I'll stump up the extra...

Removed wallpaper, painted wall beneath covered in tiny cracks

I've stripped the wallpaper off a large wall and was pleased to find the previously painted beneath wall is perfectly smooth and flat. Unfortunately it is covered in tiny hairline cracks. See photo. A coat of white emulsion didn't seem to fill the cracks at all. Apart from this the wall is good...

Covering a capped gas pipe after having gas fire remived

Thanks John, That certainly sounds sensible, however the gas pipe seems to go straight back into the concrete floor from my gas meter without splitting into separate pipes, so I'm not sure how it would be possible to disconnect the gas-fire pipe.

Thanks for the reassurance Fred. Taking a photo for future reference is a great tip as well.

Covering a capped gas pipe after having gas fire remived

Hello, had the local gas engineer out to pull out and cap my gas fire. I forgot to ask him what to do when decorating the newly exposed wall. He helpfully chisseled into the wall a bit so the cap doesn't stick out. So I could just fill it. Just wondered if this is normal practice, or if I...

Help, woeful results painting wall after stripping wallpaper!

Update: I wasn't confident in my ability to line the walls without any visible join lines, so decided to flatten it using an orbital sander borrowed from work. I emptied the room before starting but was still shocked by the amount of dust - I've never seen anything like it! At least a 1mm thick...

I see. Thank-you. Will post up the result, hopefully this weekend if I can distract the 2 year old for long enough!

Help, woeful results painting wall after stripping wallpaper!

Thanks all for the advice. If I apply the 1400 grade lining paper, and do a good job of it with the edges butted up to each-other neatly, will there will be visible join lines after painting?

Help, woeful results painting wall after stripping wallpaper!

I came home from work the other day to find my wife had pulled down the wallpaper of an admittedly rather tasteless 'feature wall' in the bedroom. My initial reaction was one of mild despair at the prospect of another job to do this weekend, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the exposed...

Changing a hard to reach basin tap

I need to replace a dripping bathroom basin tap. The chrome finish of the taps has seen better days so I''m opting for new taps rather than just a washer. However, the threaded part of the tap is in a receded part of the sink and behind the pedestal and looks quite difficult to access (i.e. to...

Gap above above UPVC window frame

We've had condensation problems around one of our bedroom windows, and recently the plastic trim at the top of the window has started coming loose. Before sealing i back up, I took the opportunity to prise it open further and peak through. I noticed that I could see all the way through to the...

    Lifting a drain grate

Thanks all for your help. It turned out to be a plastic cover without any screws or clips. It came off in two parts after a few minutes of prising around the edges with a screwdriver. I think it must have been split when removed previously. There is a drain hole at one end of the channel - not...
