I need to replace a dripping bathroom basin tap. The chrome finish of the taps has seen better days so I''m opting for new taps rather than just a washer.

However, the threaded part of the tap is in a receded part of the sink and behind the pedestal and looks quite difficult to access (i.e. to turn a spanner).

I'm hoping for tips on how to get the old one off and the new one on, without dismantling the basin/pedastal. Photos attached.
