Double Garage Door Lintel / Beam?

Thanks. Much appreciated. All I need is for the SE to respond to my emails now...

Double Garage Door Lintel / Beam?

Exactly that. 100mm concrete blocks on both courses, with a render finish. There will also be a window in the gable, but I wouldn't have thought that it would affect anything.

Double Garage Door Lintel / Beam?

Thanks for the replies. The opening is under the gable, and is a standard double, 4.27m (14 foot) opening, and the overall outer width is 5.5m. The door opening is 2.1m high, with the top of the ridge 2.7m above this (regular pitched roof, approx 45 degrees). Length is 7.5m. I've put the...

Double Garage Door Lintel / Beam?

My builder has suggested using an appropriate UB on both the inner and outer course of blocks, and then boxing it in prior to rendering. There is a substantial gable over the garage (4.8m to ridge) however the roof is being built using attic trusses rather than purlins, so there will not be that...

    Loft windows?

Hi I'm trying to decide on loft windows for my renovation project. Obviously the first thought is Velux, but my local builders merchant gave me a catalogue for Roto Windows which looked pretty good. Ideally I need top pivoting, or at least 1/3 (for head room when the windows are open)...

    Soundproofing a Chimney Breast Wall?

I was thinking of just cladding the walls either side, but I was worried that the chimney itself would conduct the sound through to the walls either side. I'm soundproofing as much for the benefit of the old lady next door as for me. Any other suggestions? Thanks

    Soundproofing a Chimney Breast Wall?

I'm planning to try and reduce the passage of sound through the solid brick party wall in our living room. The system I was thinking of is 30mm of heavy density mineral insulation, with resilient bars over the top, followed by 2 layers of 12.5mm plasterboard. The issue I'm having is what to...

    Running a 12V appliance from a 230V mains supply

What are you intending using it for? You can buy mobile 12v power packs, some with built in compressors which may do the job you want, and they are a useful thing to have anyway.

Can anyone recommend a suitable mitre saw please?

Thank you. :) Any particular recommendations? Sounds like I may be better getting two, a smaller non-slider for light work, and a large slider for the bigger jobs. Thanks for the help.

Can anyone recommend a suitable mitre saw please?

I've spent a few hours searching for a saw that will suit my needs, and I'm having trouble making a decision! The budget is up to around £200, and it will be used while I am building a double garage, and erecting a 2 storey side extension over the next 12 months or so. I thought I'd be...
