    Expansion Joints

Looking for opinions to settle an argument. Area of 96 M2 12M x 8M Domestic building block built. Pouring concrete slab 125mm deep. Finishing with 75mm sand cement screed. Where and with what should the expansion joints go? In both concrete base and top screed? At the same point...

Skimming - one or two coats?

When skimming plasterboard is it best to do two coat plastering, ie do the scrim joints - fill in the gaps and then cover again completly, or is in one good enough? I've seen both done so just wanted to find out what the concensus of opinion was. Thanks

    Hoover TV630 Tumble Dryer

Hi I have a problem when starting the machine. Press the start button and there is a buzzing noise. The machine will work whilst you have your hand on the button but stops as soon as you release. I understand that there is a relay/pcb with this machine which I suspect to be a fault but...

    Avoiding Joints in Render

Can anybody suggest the best way to avoid getting joints in a sand cement render finish when rendering a large expanse too big to do in one go. So if you have to finish one evening mid wall is it possible to pick up the next day and hide the joint? Thanks

Zanussi FJ1093 keeps draining and won't start cycles

It sounds very much like an electrical fault - fuses usually blow for a reason. Could be a short somewhere in the wire looms or within the programmer, hard to tell without checking with a meter. Probably good to have someone give advice who really knows this model, maybe it's a fault...

Zanussi FJ1093 keeps draining and won't start cycles

Hi Not sure how this particular model works but many machines have a 'rat's tail' basically a hose that is connected to a level switch and it's this that detects if the machine is empty or full. Over time these rat's tails can get blocked with undissolved washing powder and if the machine...

Indesit WG1030 Trips RCD on start of spin

I don't particularly know this model but I'm assuming it has a run of the mill carbon brush motor and therefore if the brushes are worn down and it's arcing excessively then this could be enough to trip RCDs. You could get away with changing the brushes and hopefully the motor commutator is...

    Ariston Dishwasher flashing light

Yes Merloni did keep the Colston name going because at the time it was a good name. Colston was founded by Sir Charles Colston who started off by making dishwashers - small table top ones. He was an ex hoover Director and a clause in his golden handshake was not to directly compete with...

    Ariston Dishwasher flashing light

I actually worked for Ariston in the early 80's and visited their factory in Italy where they made their machines. I should have paid more attention at the time and I've might have known more about the company set up, but I was young at the time and other things held more interest. I do know...

    Is this Price good????????

Crikey! 100M a day - that's going some. I'll take your advice and NOT entertain the 20M a day merchant. Can I take it that around 50M - 60M a day would be the average and as you say £6 a M2........ I assume this is inc of material But VAT on top? Thanks - you've probably saved me a few bob

    Is this Price good????????

Hello all Looking for help to see if I have a fair quote or not. I have about 100 M2 of skimming on Plasterboard to be done, all walls - standard room stuff, all boarded and taped ready for plaster coat. I have been quoted at £12 a M2 (inc materials). When I questioned this price I was...
