    Wiring for new extension

FFS !! Ban all sheds, what a cock u are ! Fortunately not everyone is as thick as u might think ! I have never had any problems doing a rewire. I mean no dis respect to electricians when I say that it is an easy job, done sometimes by uneducated school leavers who do an...

    vapour barrier ??

Foil backed insulation is being used between the rafters. The ridge has no vents in it apart from the dry ridge kit I am using but it will be open via a dry verge along the roof edge up to the cap on the end of the ridge tiles, not air tight. Graham

    vapour barrier ??

Hi all, just another quick question, do I need a vapour barrier between the rafters and plasterboard ?? There will be an inch gap between the roofing membrane and the top of the 125mm insulation in between the rafters and the soffits will be vented allowing air flow under the tiles. It...

    Wiring for new extension

No, I am not one of those fools who do it on a building notice !!! I have re wired several houses successfully myself but never a roof like the one I am dealing with, and not since part P came in. I am competent but do not know the exact regs now, hence my question!

    Wiring for new extension

You are indeed partially correct, no detailed plans and drawings as I specified a rough build plan for the basic building work so that's what I got . It does state that electrical installation should comply to BS*** and be done by a competent person. The plans have been excellent thus far...

    Wiring for new extension

Hi all, am I correct in thinking I can still run my own wiring and just have the part P fella connect up and inspect?? If so how do I run wires inside this roof to be within regulations?? Can I 'spur' the new extension into the existing ring main as they did with the old...

A small apology for the build plan designer, it was 12.5mm ply  OK, no ply but should I be putting a vapour barrier to the underside of the rafters ?? Graham

    Board under vaulted ceiling

Hi all, extension coming along now, and I am thinking about the inside. I am having a vaulted ceiling to the single story extension with roof lights. (ie the roof rafters form the basis for the ceiling and it will be the roof shape). The plans I had drawn up originally said after 125mm...

    Rafter hangers

I have just seen a picture where rafters are hung using a 90 deg hanger and have just notched out the bottom of the rafter so it sits in the hanger correctly. Is this technique ok ?? Graham

    Rafter hangers

Hi all, am at the roof stage and need to plan my rafters. New to roofs, as I was to bricklaying, foundations ect so go easy lol I have approx. 24 deg pitch to roof and therefore I need to attach the rafters to the ridge beam with a 24 deg cut, that I know. My question is are there...

    Increacing roof pitch, possible ??

is there a minimum that the rafter can be notched for the bird's mouth ?? My rafters are 150 x 50 mm I think.. ie can I not notch more than half way due to loss of strength, on the wall plate section?? Graham

    Increacing roof pitch, possible ??

Hi all, As far as I know at present the roof sits on the walls thus... My understanding is that I build the outer brick wall over the patio doors (2.1M) to a height of 2.4M and the inner skin of block is 1 block higher as shown. Then it's rafters attached to wall plate on inner skin...
