Machining help required in W. Yorkshire

Good evening all, I have two lengths of Tulipwood I need planing and thicknessing, but due to room for a machine(or lack thereof) and a lack of funds at the moment (why didn't someone tell me kids were expensive?) I don't have my own machine. I would be very grateful and happy to contribute to...

    Not a DIY disaster....

No blood, no pain! We Yorkshire men give absolutely nothing away! I was nailing some studs to a sole plate, the nail gun slipped and next thing was only 15mm of a 90mm nail left showing. Fortunately it missed everything of any importance(bone, tendons, blood vessels etc)...

    Not a DIY disaster....

Not a disaster really but the most appropriate forum I think(If it's in the wrong forum can the mods please move. ta) Went to work on Wednesday morning and only lasted two hours before needing to go to hospital...

    Structural ply.

Whatever ply you use should be fine given the right protection, just look at the majority of construction sites, they have a ply hoarding encompassing the sites. If you're planning on covering it in the future then it really doesn't matter what you protect the ply with as long as it does the job...

    Cost of hanging a door

No it doesn't, it depends on whether the door lining is straight, square, in twist and the legs parallel ie. just hanging a door Or whether the door casing is all over the place and absolutely sha**ed, in which case getting that 2 pence gap all round is bloody hard work!

    Cost of hanging a door

There's "Hanging" doors then there's "Fitting" doors, two very different things with the same end result.

    Getting back on the tools...

If you read my third paragraph you'll see what you're missing. I've been a site joiner so prices were already sorted (or were bulk prices as was the case house bashing, and they are different to a fully self employed tradesman working 100% for him/herself). Take another look at my third paragraph

    Getting back on the tools...

Thanks, but staying put isn't the kind of advice I was looking for, I'm currently running a house and keeping my family on £250 a week so really need to get back on the tools, hence why I am wanting to start at the weekends.

    Getting back on the tools...

Not really sure where this should have been posted so opted for this forum! Joiner by trade for over 20 years but when construction took a hit back in '08 I also took a hit and found it almost impossible to get back on to a site unless it was through an agency, which was sporadic but fine...

Are you ready for tomorrow (Immigration thread)

I for one think it's cataclysmic to allow more immigration on a massive scale, which is what will happen(though the lefties would have you believe otherwise). Back in 2004 we saw a massive influx of eastern Europeans, the effects of which was there were fewer jobs in construction for UK...

Plasterboard type thing. (Poor Picture added)

Yes, you can take out the box, but leave the angled timbers. The parents had similar in their house, I made it in to a two tiered shelf.

    Asbestos Garage

Don't do this ^^ You risk a £25,000 fine if you're caught, as well as potentially exposing anyone who digs in the same place in the future! Double bag it and take it to the correct disposal site for burial, your local council will best advise you.

have I just been breaking up asbestos boards unknowningly?

The stuff that was quite hard to break could be asbestos cement and has a lower (but no less potentially harmful) asbestos content. The stuff that broke up easier could possibly be AIB or Asbestos Insulation Board, and has a far higher asbestos content. As the above poster has said, bag all...
