System boiler sounds like it's filling up

Hi all, I've go a Worcester system boiler that makes a weird noise similar to a toilet cistern filling up. It only does this when the hot water is on and it will do it every 15 mins or so even if no hot water has been used. It only does this with the hot water - heating is fine. Pressure is...

    secret gully vs ridge tiles

Hi, I've been getting quotes in to replace my roof (mid terrace). The new tiles will match the new roof on my neighbours house but not the old smaller tiles on my other neighbours old roof. Several roofers have recommended a secret gully that sits under my new tiles and the neighbours...

    Two dimmers - one light

Thanks for replies. Slave \ Master looks like it will work for me :) Why dim? I set it as a night light when going to bed incase one of the kids gets up in the night. It's a small hall with no sockets or other lighting so dimmer seemed the obvious solution.

    Two dimmers - one light

Hi, I want to be able to dim the upstairs hall light from either upstairs or downstairs. The only way I can think that this will work is to use those electronic touch sensitive dimmers (assuming they reset when off or do they remember the previous light level when you turn them back on?)...

Do I need a Megaflow cylinder?

The boiler had been off for 10 hrs when I came home and tried the water again and it was still very hot so yes it does insulate very well :) Is the top pipe the one that vents or does it feed the taps? Just wondering if turning a tap on will increase the temperature of the pipe and thus turn...

Do I need a Megaflow cylinder?

Hi there, A had a new Worcester system boiler fitted in the summer to replace an aging gravity fed Servowarm. All works fine apart from the cylinder stat doesn't work properly as (according to the plumber) the 25 year old cylinder is probably too furred up. i.e. piping hot water yet the...

Cylinder & Room Stat states in wiring diagrams

Hi there, I'm trying to work out a Y-Plan wiring diagram with a Honeywell timer. Honeywell (top left diagram on last page) What I can't work out is what state the cylinder stat is shown in. I.e is it showing the state of the valve when the water is cold or hot? Same goes for...

Pilot light wont stay on - no heating!

Hi, Need some urgent help as I have no heating :( I've got a Servowarm Elite boiler and the pilot light wont stay on. I can ignite it but as soon as I release the button (after holding it in for a minute) the flame goes out. I've checked the "over-heat" reset button and its in. Is...

    Would you buy a Viessmann?

Thanks for all the posts guys. One more question: My current boiler is rated at 14.7kw output but it's under powered for my house. I'm therefore looking at the 19kw or 26kw. There isnt a massive difference in price. However is it worth going for a bigger boiler or is that a waste of...

    Would you buy a Viessmann?

Hi, Looking at replacing the old boiler (and I don’t mean the mother-in-law :) ). Someone has recommended a Viessmann Vitodens with a Weather Compensation module. Looks pretty pricy! However, if I save the percentages that the brochures reckon then it may be money well spent. Was...

    Internal wall insulation

Hi, I live in a 1930s house with no cavity walls :( I have a bay wall that gets very cold in the winter. I'm about to decorate the room so I want to line the wall internally with some kind of insulation. The window sill is less than 50mm deep so I dont have much depth to play with. Can...
