Treating oak kitchen cabinet doors - paste wax suitable?

Hi guys, Hoping for a little advice. I have sanded back some oak kitchen cabinet doors back to bare wood and have painted the front face and sides with BIN, followed by three coats of LG Intelligent Eggshell. I wanted to keep the back side of the door unpainted, but am unsure what would be...

Cutting scallops into bargeboard - jigsaw or router?

Job&Knock - thanks for the thorough reply! I missed this last night, but I had a trial with the jigsaw and was happy with the results, so went with that. Must admit, when buying some new blades I missed that the D blades were suitable for curves....I disregarded the coarser blades as I wasn't...

Cutting scallops into bargeboard - jigsaw or router?

I'm at the stage of fitting the bargeboard to my summer house/shed, and would like to scallop the edge. The boards are 32 x 175 PAR, and I'll have around 10m to do. Intially, I thought I would make a partial template, and use a router & flush cutter to repeat the pattern along the board. I...

Felt shingles - drip edge at verge?

I am planning to fit some felt shingles to a shed/summer house that I have been building. I have looked at various manufacturers installation methods, and most advise a drip edge at eaves & verge. I have looked at the metal drip trims, but they seem less popular in the UK and when you do...

Which clear treatment for exterior wood?

I have an old timber door that I am going to use on my shed. The door has been dipped previously and is now back to bare wood - but I quite like how it looks as is - are there any suitable preservers/treatments out there that will leave a clear matt/satin finish, without changing the colour? I...

Gable truss ladder for shed - couple of questions

Also been suggested I could use a 4x2 sub fascia to support the ends a little, I did consider that, but I've nogged along the ply join line, so if I have an extra 2 inches on end of rafter, I'll have to move the noggins to suit!! Not a big deal I know, but it's the principal

Gable truss ladder for shed - couple of questions

Thanks guys. I suppose I could put the ladders up, and if they seem to sag, could add some brackets later. I also wondered about passing some lengths of 4x2 or 3x2 under the ladder, gable truss & first truss, then attach to undersides. Not the prettiest, but would only be seen on inside of roof...

Gable truss ladder for shed - couple of questions

Hi Noseall, thanks for your advice. I had looked at various methods of extending the gable, considered drop gable, but having seen other builds with 'flying' ladders, so to speak, I went with that method in mind & cracked on building the A frames. I did wonder about gallows brackets, but...

Gable truss ladder for shed - couple of questions

Hi guys, I'm part way through building a shed/summerhouse, 3.6 x 3.0m, gable across the long wall, 3x2 framework with 4x2 A frame trusses (with 3x2 bottom cord), 17.5' pitch. The framework is finished so I'm now moving onto the roof - weather permitting!! I'd like to extend the front gable...

Thanks again ic1927. I'll be overcoating with Iberis White, so will go for the lightest shade they do!

Suitable wood preserver before overcoating with Superdec?

Thanks ic1927 - I had also heard of a few other decs who reommend the same. Does it offer any anti rot protection though? I'll have a read of the datasheets.

Suitable wood preserver before overcoating with Superdec?

I have a shed that I am building which will be finished with sadolin Superdec. Most of the timber used has been pressure treated, but some of the timber, doors/windows/liners, is bare & untreated. Any suggestions on which preserver is best to use before the Superdec? Sadolin suggest two coats...

Shed build - couple of questions!

Indeed I can big-all! I laid some decking in a period of very changeable weather and it played havoc with my expansion gaps!! Typical British weather!! My shiplap has been drying in a warm garage for a month now, just need to decide on colour before I start to install it as I'll need to...
