    Insulating a concrete garage

Hi all, So after lots of planning I just can’t justify the expense of a brick garage. So, I’m going to be getting a sectional garage. I’ll partly be using it as my office, partly to store my bike, partly to use for other hobbies. So it’ll be getting a lot of use. With that in mind, I’m...

    Cost Effective Garage Build?

Hi all, we've recently converted our garage into a pantry and utility room which sees me without a garage... this needs fixing :) at the side of our house we have a 3.9m passage, which is used as driveway space, it leads directly into the garden. I intend to build the garage on here, attached...

    shiplap gaps

I’ll be ordering the ply tomorrow if that’s the easiest route to take. I really don’t wanna worry about the shiplap unless I really have to. Was a bloody long job getting it done and I’m really keen to get using the shed asap

    shiplap gaps

Oh it’s not leaking at all, it’s purely light coming up from under the tongue if anything. I didn’t want to clamp them too far to allow for movement so they were only given a whack to locate I’d thought pushing too much would create more issues. so no, purely light, not leaking at all, which...

    shiplap gaps

I assumed it was really just a limitation of the material and the fact I didn’t dry it out for a month before using it. I’d hoped I could just leave it as is, or fill the small gaps with something - or clad the inside and be done with it

    shiplap gaps

Man that would suck! all are screwed in from the outside, so moving them now would be a pain in the rear. there really nothing else to be done? Attached are the images of the “bad” areas in question (ignore the clear area at the top, that’s to be covered on the outside tomorrow)

    shiplap gaps

Yeah I was intending to put it on the outside before cladding but just didn’t. so, stick it on inside and clad with ply? Solve the issue?

    shiplap gaps

Hi all, so, been building a shed, and i'm no professional so there are imperfections here and there. one being between some planks of the shiplap. I don't think it'll let any rain in, but with the changes in temp the boards are having a move about and I can see sunlight through in a couple...

    Lean to shed queries

looking at this picture, should I be installing vertical rails on the outside to stop the boards warping/moving too much?

    Lean to shed queries

So, decided against the insulation etc. Reminding myself it's a shed, and will be building a garage later in the year anyway - which will be insulated. I chose against composite bearers, cost was just going to be too high. Put the DPM down, used some decking risers (I say some... I used...

    Lean to shed queries

Hi all, so, sadly, I'd paid a local chippy to build my lean to shed - long story short he's a con man so i'm back to doing it myself.... at the moment, I have a concrete base, between the base and the house is a DPM. The base itself has no DPM. I am intending to build a raised base from...

    Loft boarding

Yeah I made a decent start, I replaced any insulation I took up with 100mm celotex, just so I didn’t crush the thicker stuff that was there. mused 145mm joists and covered with 22mm flooring pretty pleased with my start

    Which Nail gun?

Ok, so i'm gunna be boarding out the loft, https://www.buildersmetalwork.com/type-ar_trip-l_grip_framing_anchor.html so will be installing a bunch of these. Honestly, can't be bothered to nail them by hand. So, hoped for a recommendation for a nailer to make life a little easier.

    Loft boarding

Yeah same here, I don't want to rely on plastic things really. our last house was boarding and the guys who did it built counterbattens and replaced all the insulation - i'm not going as far this time and they're too busy to do it so just gunna do me best.

    Loft boarding

yeah but until then I have a wife and that means I get "ohhh we can't throw that" so in the loft it can live.
