Hi all, How can i cover a damp patch that is 2ft square, can i use foil backed plasterboard with dot and dab with a damp aditive. This is next to a chimney breast. Strange thing is there is no bricks under the damp patch for the damp to rise and there is also a joist underneath this...

Not at the moment but there will be soon as we are in the middle of doing so. could this be the actual cause of the damp and somebody advised using a repellent plaster in these areas if so any ideas what it is? Thanks Simon

Right here goes: I have reluctantly had to remove old plaster from old walls as it had blown. Some of the brick work joints are now loose so should i render, if so what with or will the dot and dab process strenghen in anycase?? Thanks
