Both tanks sit level on the same boarding, but as the cold water tank is much bigger, the water is higher in the cold water tank.

Thanks for advice so far. So I got my float valve replaced by a plumber (wasn't completely sure myself so safer to get some help). After a few days of no drips, the overflow pipe has now started dripping again, with the tank back up to the level shown in the picture I uploaded. I guess...

Is the existing valve a part 2? Looking online, I guess the existing orange float just gets screwed on the end of the new valve. With regards to the overflow pipe being too high, certainly agree. But how would I fix this unless I replace the whole cistern?

I've taken out some water, and the drop in water level did not open the valve to refill the tank. The dripping has stopped. So far so good.....
