Not the best picture, taken through the patio window. The gap is 5/6 inches in some places. A lot of the grass is just growing towards / over the gap. It’s worse than it seems. I did think of gravel. But wouldn’t grass against gravel look just as untidy after a while?

The grass in our garden does not go right up against the concrete base of the fence, see image. The gap varies but makes it look untidy. Is there a gap for a reason? i.e. to stop moisture from the soils up against the concrete? Or can I fill it with soil and then seed over it? Or should I...

New bulb did not fit, despite being (apparently) the right size. I will try get the voltage tested then see where to go from there.

Thanks for all the advice. I have just ordered one new bulb, not too much wasted if it doesn’t work. I’ll also try get hold of a voltage tester to see it measure at the fitting.

Yes I did. They don’t seem to be labelled with a specific end, but yes have tried both ways.

Yes it is when switched on. Usually they are fine for 10-15 minutes. I have had the covers off for a while now so that hasn’t helped. I may try some new bulbs then. At least that would hopefully rule out one potential issue.

The tubes are ones in the link below. All from Wickes. I originally had units with integrated tube but it didn’t come with the fixings to attach to ceiling. Needed something quick so got these. Maybe it would be easier to go back to integrated...
