    New windows price?

Get them from overseas if you have time. In UK windows for my house were quoted around £25k from various uPVC double glazing companies. I have 4 large bays at the front, various other windows at the back and a set of 6 folding/sliding doors. From Scandinavia the quote for Aluminium Clad...

Unvented or pumped - which will give best shower?

Hi All, As per the topic title I'm trying to assess which will give the most powerful shower. An unvented system which would give mains pressure hot water or a standard gravity fed system with a seperate pump on the shower? Assume that flow is sufficient (30litres per minute) and that...

Exciting - new house - shiney new system

Thanks Toptec, it is indeed Wales & West, I've got a quote and am awaiting an install date - £550 is the quote which includes running pipe to the property and install of the meter box (semi-recessed in ground). EDF will be doing the meter later.

Exciting - new house - shiney new system

bengasman, you are quite right I am looking for the right 'person'. So the quote process is only partly to do with price. References will be important as will getting to meet them and talking to them about what I need. After I have several quotes back I'll probably call 2 back for a longer chat...

Exciting - new house - shiney new system

So anyway, I'm now in the house and am in the process of getting quotes from a number of local plumbers - views on the system needed differ between standard gravity fed with storage tanks in loft and unvented system as suggested here. The unvented seems to me to be the better move, what's the...

Exciting - new house - shiney new system

So what I'm hearing is gas is the preferred choice. (Is that Transco who connect that these days?). To give the constant pressure I'm after I'll need a combination of boiler plus hot water storage tank to meet the demand? Do I have that correct? Anything else I ought to be asking the...

Exciting - new house - shiney new system

Hi All, I'm moving house in a couple of weeks - the new property will be very nice but is currently a wreck  I need to get a completely new central heating system/hot water etc installed. The property is in Cornwall. There is gas in the road but this was disconnected from the...

    Potterton Fireside 50 not lighting?

funny that - my trade (IT) also makes use of 'swearing'. Ran out of my personal lifetime quota by the time I was 22! :D

    Potterton Fireside 50 not lighting?

Thanks for that, all now lit up. Not sure about flushing the pipes thing. Maybe as the boiler is not in the same room as the cooker it got forgotten? Anyway I shall know to ask for this next time I have a (different!) corgi guy in to do gas work. Cheers.

    Potterton Fireside 50 not lighting?

Hi All, I'm hoping that I'm being stupid . . . I have a Fireside 50 back boiler. I have been in this property 2 months without any issues. This boiler runs the central heating. Hot water is via an emersion heater. I had a new (gas) cooker fitted 2 days ago. During this operation the...

Potterton Puma 80E gas cutting out

OK, so having looked at this for bit - I decided to have poke around at the Automatic Air Vent once again - I found that there was still a large amount of air in the system (it must have still been blocked despite removing the screw at the top). Now I have a different problem. After I have...

Potterton Puma 80E gas cutting out

Chris, I've loosened the nut and water does start to come out. The time taken to cut off appears to be the same whatever combination of heating or water I use, even if tap is on full. The pipes near the Overheat stat don't appear to be overly hot - they are warm but not more than I would expect...

Potterton Puma 80E gas cutting out

The automatic air vent wasn't lose so I have loosned it. This doesn't seem to have made any difference to the way the boiler cuts out. I am assuming that your 'leaky' description refers to the tiny amount of water that is present around the small plastic screw? Thanks for the help anyway.

Potterton Puma 80E gas cutting out

no not a wind up - I wasn't aware that 80E didn't have a pilot! I was making the assumption that mine was an 80E or 80 SE. It has all of 80/80E/80SE written on it at some point. The fault finding guide in the manual that seemed to fit best was that for the 80E hence my assumption that this was...

Potterton Puma 80E gas cutting out

nope. The only thing I can see is that the main burner comes on moe strongly than it did before (probably due o the new fan) however just before the burner goes out there seems to be a sl;ight increase in the strength of flame from the burner.
