    Led security light problem

An update on this: 3 more led flood lights blew. I had to tweak the wiring in the garage for another purpose 12 months ago, and discovered that the spark who'd wired up the garage spur had reversed the polarity. So live to neutral and vice versa. I changed that back to what it should be and...

Options to replace room thermostats with web enabled thermostats

I have the following: - air source heat pump (daikin altherma) - wet underfloor heating (3 zone) downstairs - radiators upstairs - 3 room stats downstairs (heatmiser wired), with a controller box (looks made on site) for ufh - 1 room stat upstairs for the rads (some bonco brand wired) - there...

Installing window into single skin garage

No gaps or cracks around wall plate. Lintel is currently wedged in place (I needed to take it out to sort the broken bricks in the top left corner). I've also attached a photo of the blockwork I've built up inside, a belt and braces measure to add mass to pier and single skin, and give me a...

Installing window into single skin garage

Thanks, done that, it is out of plumb the other side of the door (but less so), same with further along past the window (which extends across the three garages). My thinking is that by building up behind the single skin section it will sure it up, but obviously won't do anything to anything...

Installing window into single skin garage

There's the pics, the last ones show the level as straight.. as I say, could well have been like that before I started. Thanks woody, that's reassuring, as nothing looks cracked. Although one of the bricks between the window and the door has hairline cracks all the way around the joints (as...

Installing window into single skin garage

Fair point. Will upload some pictures later... The gist is that my wall isn't straight, I'm slightly concerned that I've done something to it whilst installing the window. Surely, that should read "NOT just dabbing it on to single skin"? That wasn't my intention on that wall, although I was...

Installing window into single skin garage

Hi, We have a newbuild (2010) house, with a detached garage (in a block of garages). We have a door into our garage as it backs onto our garden. I'm planing on converting the half the garage to use as an office, the plan is to install insulated plasterboard, nothing posh, just somewhere to sit...

    Lean to against fence

Actually, thinking about it I could take the boarding off the fence. Then I could relocate the rails below the roof line (6 inches down), cut the top 8 inches off the posts, then put roof over the posts, and put a drip trim from the roof into the gap between the posts and boards (essentially...

    Lean to against fence

Yes... But I couldn't take it down (otherside is a parking area, and it's quite a long fence).

    Lean to against fence

Hi, I'm building a lean to shed in the garden, it's down the side of the house, so space is at a premium. Currently there is a 9ft high closeboarded fence (facing outwards so the posts and rails and visible from inside the garden). I'm going to build the lean to against that fence. I appreciate...

Engineered Floor moving/making noises on fibreboard underlay.

The more I've pondered, the more I imagine that fibreboard are ok for flattening rough surfaces, but rubbish on unlevel surfaces.. seesaw effect.. Starting to think lifting them is the best option, a little intrepid about the short end joints, but probably get it done in a day..

Engineered Floor moving/making noises on fibreboard underlay.

Fair point, but I was looking for 5mm underlay (I was paranoid about the subfloor - which in hindsight might be ironic as I'm now thinking the fibreboard has caused the exact problem I was trying avoid), the manufacturers tell me that these fibreboards have an r-value of 0.07 (admittedly that's...

Engineered Floor moving/making noises on fibreboard underlay.

I've just installed an Engineered oak floor (click loc 14mm) over a concrete subfloor, with a vapour barrier and fibreboard underlay. The subfloor has wet underfloor heating (although I've not had the underfloor heating on since installing). The subfloor had a few areas which needed levelling...
