Levelling where extension concrete floor meets existing timber floor

Thanks @foxhole - I assume you mean lay the 6mm cement boards over both the concrete extension and the wooden floor? What sort of adhesive do you use to attach them to the concrete/screed?

Levelling where extension concrete floor meets existing timber floor

We're having an extension built - knocking through the existing kitchen to make a kitchen diner and the builders will soon be laying the insulation and screeding. The existing kitchen floor is currently tiled. Should I ask the builders to bring the screed level to the existing timber floor...

When do you need to use vapour barrier for plasterboarding?

I'm drylining some brick walls in the bathroom with battens and moisture resistant plasterboard. I'm not clear on whether I need to use vapour barrier or not? 2 of the walls are external cavity walls 1 is internal. There is no damp or anything. Can anyone advise on when vapour barrier should...

Bathroom waste issues - any bright ideas?

Do you mean 50mm pipes inside too? I've just measured the outside 40mm run and it is 2.5m and drops 5cm so less than the 1 in 40 required. If anything changing to 50mm will make the drop slightly less. Is there a problem with extending the horizontal soil pipe and connecting everything...

Bathroom waste issues - any bright ideas?

Hi all, I'm remodelling my bathroom and looking for some advice on sorting out the waste connections. The bathroom currently has a bath, a separate shower, a bidet, a basin and a toilet. The toilet waste goes outside to an elbow then horizontally around 2m at a slight drop to the vertical soil...

One radiator not heating up even after replacing both valves

Thanks again for all the advice - for those that are interested and in case anybody has a similar situation ianmcd was right. I got a plumber around in the end as I wasn't too confident with unblocking the pipe and he was pretty stumped by this too. As I mentioned there was a T at the lockshield...

One radiator not heating up even after replacing both valves

No, the radiator didn't heat up at all... the pipe to the TRV did heat up when I opened the bleed valve but no heat got into the radiator. As far as I'm aware I haven't capped off the return from the existing radiator. There was a T at the flow end... One branch going to the TRV of the...

One radiator not heating up even after replacing both valves

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I've removed the radiator and fully opened the lockshield and nothing comes out. I then disconnected the lockshield and small bit of pipe from an elbow beneath the floor boards and nothing runs out of this pipe. I poked a piece of wire down the pipe and didn't...

One radiator not heating up even after replacing both valves

It's 15mm copper pipe. As far as I can tell this pipe only runs under the floor or inside the walls s I doubt its crushed. Guess it must be sludge then. Any way of removing this?

One radiator not heating up even after replacing both valves

Thanks, I have just done that and it looks like you're right there's no water coming out of the lockshield even when opened fully and a wet and dry vac attached to the end. Is this likely to be air or something else blocking it? Any idea how I can unblock it? The pipe seems to go straight from...

One radiator not heating up even after replacing both valves

I have been following advice on other threads about one radiator not heating up but have still not had any success so wondered if anyone had any further suggestions. I recently removed a radiator from the lounge (we had two huge radiators + the room was always plenty warm enough with just one...

capping off push-fit pipe at a tee

Thanks, I replaced with an elbow as suggested

capping off push-fit pipe at a tee

I am removing a radiator (permanently) and have traced the pipes back to the nearest tee. The pipes are push fit (tees look like this: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/d20/Pushfit/sd3143/Tee/p47121) ... is the best way to cap this off to unscrew the relevant arm of the tee, remove the...

Previously widened fireplace - is this safe or new lintel needed?

Great, thanks. We were considering getting the stove now but have been put off by the cost of the install and the fact that we would rarely use it at the moment as we have young kids. So maybe in a year or two - although if the existing flue is usable we might do it straight away as I guess...

Previously widened fireplace - is this safe or new lintel needed?

I have just removed an inset gas fire with a view to opening up the fireplace to the builders opening … initially for aesthetic reasons (to have a more rustic look) and eventually to get a wood burning stove fitted. The original builders opening is only about 50cm and unfortunately it looks...
