I've just replaced my old plastic light switch with a new metal one. The light works, it comes on, but it won't turn off. I've tried the old switch back on it and still won't turn off. What am I doing wrong?

I am replacing my plastic light switches with chrome ones. The back boxes are also plastic and there is no earth wire present, however the instructions for the new metal light switch state they must be earthed. The plastic back box has no fitting for an earth connection. Do I need to replace the...
