    Log cabins to live in

Wife and I are on the brink of divorce, we're on a weekend away in a lovely log cabin complete with log burner, very romantic. Got me thinking about my potential exit and how cool it would be to buy land somewhere and have one of these built to my precise specs. I'm thinking one floor, one...

    Driveway ideas and advice needed.

I'm leaning more towards paving bricks now, about £20 per sqm and 50mm thick. Nightmare! Already agreed to the quote now having to cancel it, disappointed he didn't know they wouldn't be thick enough. I checked with jewsons and the sandstone slabs are actually 22mm. Neighbour has 22mm...

    Advice On Lifting Floorboards Please

Circular saw set to the same thickness of the board, don't go cutting through pipes or cables that are sometimes laid on top of joists. Don't hit the nails with the saw it could kick back at you. Always use screws to put them back down and if you need to lift the board out again, take the...

I've seen that before, old lady over the road just had it done. I quite like it but my fair lady does not and this indian sandstone is something we agree on. Also I heard the resin is expensive...

    Driveway ideas and advice needed.

Wasn't sure what epoxy coating was, I googled it and it looks more like factory floor type of surface unless I'm looking at the wrong thing. I thought Indian sandstone was an expensive material but per sqm I'm seeing standard paving bricks that are more expensive. £3,500 looks a good quote...

Good to hear, that's £2,100 saved! The £3,500 quote he says that's £2,000 on materials so is there a cheaper option ? Doesn't have to be Indian sandstone I like some stone slabs aswell and the paving bricks look OK too. Is printed concrete expensive ?

    Driveway ideas and advice needed.

Hello this is my sorry looking driveway. The plan is to build a waist height wall where the grass meets the swing and slide, swing & slide area will be artificial grass and the rest will be block paving or slabs of some sort. I had two quotes for Indian sandstone. One builder wants to leave the...

Removing bell box for external rendering.

Rendering is now complete, however I can't set the alarm system. The keypad says 'bell box tamper' when I try to set. Everything is back in place so is this just one of those small springs inside the box that keep the tamper switch pressed in ? I hope the spring isn't lost.

    Rendered over lead flashing.

Thanks Roy. He's coming back later today. He said he only does rendering so maybe his roofing knowledge is very basic although rendering does sometimes involve altering bits of roof work so he should know better. But then the silicone on lead, maybe he doesn't know better or he's trying to fob...

    Rendered over lead flashing.

In the second picture I posted you can see down into the little pocket where the white render/plastic bead meets the lead flashing. There was nothing between them! So rain would run straight behind the render. I think they should've fitted another soaker at the bottom first and then bent it...

    Rendered over flashing

Wonder if he will pay for the roofer? That will be an interesting conversation. I still owe him £650 for some other work so there's some leverage, not my job to fix his mess.

    Rendered over lead flashing.

I posted this in the roofing forum too as it involves rendering and roofing, there's pictures of the bodge that was done. The flashing behind it is stepped, suppose that would've been tricky to go around and would've left the sides of the render exposed to water. The plastic bead holds the...

    Rendered over flashing

I don't like the look of it either, I don't trust him to put it right though I'll get a roofer to do it. Thanks.

    Rendered over flashing

He's done a fix today, it's the black tape (like lead) stuck over the top of the tiles and sealed with the white silicone on the join between the tape and the flashing. There is a lead soaker under all this but I can't see how it would've stopped water getting into the side of the new...

    Rendered over flashing

That corner is dark because it's damp, the flashing, plastic bead and tiles are not working together to funnel rainwater into the guttering. So I'm wondering what is wrong and needs to change? I'm worried about water getting behind the new white render.
