I'm going to bite the bullet and go for artificial turf, as it seems like the only solution where I won't have to smash out a slab concrete that backs onto the house. Does anyone know if it can work across concrete and soil both without too many issues? That said does anyone have any pointers...

I'm new to this, is there some kind of stigma attached to fake turf? Happy to fall in line if that's a major faux pas, just need something a small child can safely crawl on and seems the natural grass option isn't possible from all the feedback, but open to suggestions.

Thanks for the response. Do you mean can't, the intention was to lay top soil first not just turf.
