Its not a thermostatic mixer its the type where you lift the knob to change the flow from the taps to the shower head.

I have a bit of damp in my hallway. I have been advised to hack away the contaminated area and re-plaster. Is this sufficient to sort the problem, or is there some magic solution or chemical i should apply to the affected area before plastering to kill any salts or other nasties? Any advice...

P.S. A power flush works on the volume of water it pushes around the sytem ie: flow rate, to dislodge and suspend any contaminants in the system so they are suspended in the aqueous medium and drawn off to be dumped, not just blasted through at high pressure.
