    Central Heating Design Tips

Seconded, if the EV was a safety device then it would need a backup for when it failed since rubber will always fail eventually. The boiler pressure relief valve is the safety device. The EV is just part of the normal equipment so the system can function.

    Central Heating Design Tips

Even if I isolate all the rads, which is a lot more work than turning one service valve, I'd still have to drain all the water in the pipes running in the ceiling space above the PV. Surface tension won't hold ~1.5m head of water in an open 22 or 15mm pipe. Any air in the pipe will allow the...

    Central Heating Design Tips

I'm not a bungalow. The water in the upstairs radiators is a pressure so only if I drain all the water out of the upstairs radiators and any tall downstairs rads would the pressure at the pressure vessel be zero. Far easier to have an isolator and then drain the PV IMO. With my tall upstairs...

    Central Heating Design Tips

EV valve is actually a full bore type so a bit better than 10 in bag types. The intergas fitter's preference was for a second trap as he'd seen a backed up sewer fill up a boiler with.... BTW IMO the intergas fitter knew his stuff. My fitter preferred direct because of the potential flue gas...

    Central Heating Design Tips

2 Gas fitter's have seen this and not had a problem, quite the opposite, so why don't you say what you think is wrong and why, rather than just posting "something is wrong but I'm not saying what"?

    Central Heating Design Tips

I thought I'd share my central heating design in case anyone finds it is useful. I should add I'm not just blowing my own trumpet here, when the boiler manufacturer's engineer saw the setup he was impressed so much that he shared it with a colleague too. Picture Key: B: Gas Boiler...

    Eaton SDR-WEXT-00 Bell

It was the only alarm bell on CPC which is why I got it.

    Eaton SDR-WEXT-00 Bell

Hi, This has to be the bell with the worst documentation around. Plus Eaton have the installer manuals behind a "you have to register" wall (why?) so you can't even see how it is wired up in their alarms to work out what is happening. Hence I'm posting this to anyone else with problems. 1)...

Preparing new stud/solid wall & ceiling for plaster skim

Hi, I plan to outsource the plaster skim. I'll plasterboard the ceiling and the wall. I'll use TE board so it joint tape is hidden and it just needs a minimum skim. Normally I would dryline tape and joint but there is too much to do so having it plaster skimmed seems the quickest and the...

Kitchens - dryfit cabs, access panels

Hi, I'm looking at new kitchen with assembled units. I can opt to have these dryfit which is to say not glued. I can then take them apart on site to cut holes etc.. Will I need sash cramps to glue these up when I have finished? 4? Or can I just stand them on end with a weight on them? Or...

Pushfit mix and match - conflicting advice

So floplast are changing their hot and cold pushfit fittings it seems and so screwfix have stopped selling them and are running down old stock. A PITA since I have a project on the go which has used floplast. I have reels of pipe but needed some more fittings for next stage - no joy. Hence I...

Screed or concrete to raise shower tray?

There's not enough space. I need 40mm height, say 18mm OSB3 for platform then that is only 22mm under platform to floor and that needs to include a mortar bed for levelling too (floor surface is existing screed and a bit rough). Easiest solution is a cast base of some sort as then it is far...

Screed or concrete to raise shower tray?

I need to cast a platform to raise a ground floor shower tray to get the right fall. The waste pipe goes below floor level but I don't have enough fall with just that so I need to take the shower tray up. I think I'll need 40mm. Floor is old style so 100mm concrete with 50mm screed. I'll pre...

    Shower tray unstuck

So I've done some tests. Concrete on damaged tray is solid so I'm maligning the trays unfairly. Walked around on the trays, just in socks of course, while wife looked at the crack. No sign of crack getting wider when I go to the back or the middle. Only change is when I load the very front...

    Shower tray unstuck

Yes the chipboard floor is screwed and glued. Spacejoists are 72mm wide so a lot of surface for the glue and the screws were tite type. Joists are 400mm centres, chipboard 22mm. Proper wood glue too. AFAIR there are some noggins too. One tray starts about 0.3m from joist support wall so not...
