    Hi, I've exposed the brickwork on my fireplace but don't know what to seal it with, PVA and water have been recommended but I've herd it leaves a glossy finish, I'm looking for a matt finish, just to seal in the dust. Any help appreciated. [/img]

    hi, I've just done the same, I started by removing all the plaster from the chimney breast to reveal the original brickwork then started taking out the infill bricks, the original arched brickwork is the lintel, so no other lintel will be required as long as the brick arch is sound...

    Thanks ree, The dark smudges are dirt marks caused when removing the plaster, the room is getting a full re-skim when all the major work is complete. What about sealing the brick with a low sheen sealer after cleaning ?
