    bottle trap won't seal

I'd go with newboy's suggestion. Quite a few times I've had to cut 3mm or so off the nut on the trap. It seems that these pop up wastes have very short threads.

    router help

Hi cannonfoder I can't see any way of doing it in the way you suggest. You have to use a 12.7 mm worktop bit in a 1/2 inch heavy duty router. If you were to obtain a cutter with a 1/4 shank, it would not have the cutting depth. Nor would a small router have enough plunge depth, or sufficient...

House renovation where to start? Help needed!!

Hi Lucyelliot Without seeing the property, I can only make a few general comments based on personal experience. Firstly don't be tempted to rush into anything, take your time, and do the research. Make absolutely sure the property is weather tight, check the roof etc. Look at any...

    Strange Studs??

Hi These are where there used to be a gas water heater fitted to the wall. They're both 1/2 inch BSP plugs, the lower one water, and the upper one gas Take great care as they may still be connected.

    DAB/FM aerial

Sureitsoff? - That's a fantastic web site. I could learn a lot there. I shall be reading as much as possible, and will no doubt order all I need from them.

    DAB/FM aerial

Thank you Sam, I take it that's what is used for satellite installations, i.e. the best I can get.

    DAB/FM aerial

Thank you Lucid for your prompt reply. I will follow your advice. There was just no way I was going to get another lead in there.

    DAB/FM aerial

Your expert advice would be much appreciated. I have an external, chimney mounted 4 element FM aerial. The chimney is about to be demolished, so I will be replacing with a wall mounted pole. I would like to update to DAB, and still receive FM, but I need to stick to just the one down lead...

    PVC door panel

Hi there, I need a little advice. I have to fit a cat flap in my PVC door. removing the existing lower glass unit, and replacing with a reinforced panel. I have no problems with removing, and refitting the beading. Can you recommend a supplier of a 750x750 plain white panel on the Internet ...

    Front door locking mechanism

If you are able to open the door by pushing down the pad without using the key, there is a fault in the lock. I would have thought best to replace the lock. You would only have to replace the central part of the mechanism. what would be known as 'dual spindle gearbox' for multipoint lock...

    Front door locking mechanism

Hi Am I right, that all three doors have the same handles. the front door would normally have a handle inside, and a pad outside, the two being offset. This would mean the door cannot be opened from outside without the key. But can be double locked by lifting the pad or handle. A rear door...

Loud noise, no CH anymore, DM5601 or MK1453 or EP200 faulty?

Hi I'm not sure that Maplin part number is quite correct, they list it as 12volt. Suggest you take the old relay to the local branch and check. I should point out that although Ant1 managed to repair the old board (and seems made a good job of it) it would not be recomended practice.

    Noisy central heating

There is no reason why you can't do this work. My reason for suggesting a system check out was, that as you said you were not happy with the workmanship of the intallation, then maybe a qualified engineer should take a look at the installation as a whole, there could well be other faults.

    Noisy central heating

By all means try as HERTSDRAINAGE2010 has suggested, but if the manufacturers require an auto bypass, it should have one. It may be a good idea to get the system checked out, and the boiler serviced if this hasn't been done for 6 years.
