Installing a new remote control dimmer switch

Thanks - and if the module doesn't fit into the wall box, what are the options? I've got a deeper wall box but it wont even fit into that. Is there a rule about the module being encased in a wall box, or could it sit behind the wall box (stud wall)?

Installing a new remote control dimmer switch

Hi all I would like to have a new remote controlled dimmer switch installed in my bathroom. The bathroom has two lighting circuits - one circuit is downlighters and one circuit is incandescent pendants over the basins. At the moment they are controlled as a single circuit with a single...

    Dead power wire?

Thank you for the responses. Can I assume that for an electrician diagnosing a fault like this should be fairly straightforward? The power line runs from the bedroom into the RCD unit directly, so it's a fairly simple circuit.

    Dead power wire?

Hi all. I wonder if someone can offer me some advice on an electrical wiring problem (forgive my use of layman's terms!). In my bedroom I am trying to install an electric curtain track (a Silent Gliss 5400). This has an electric motor which takes two wires - a mains 240v power wire...

    Advice on new engineered floor

Hi guys I am currently having a new engineered floor installed (Kahrs indossati - 15mm boards). The previous floor was a mess - bouncy all over the place and badly fitted, so I had it taken up. The new floor layer (who is a close family friend, so I'm familiar with his work - its...

    Self levelling compound

Hi I know there are already a lot of threads on this topic but I just wanted to ask a few questions. I am about to try and level a subfloor before relaying engineered boards. The guys who did the floor originally did a poor job so I'm going to try and do it myself. 1. How hard is it to...

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

Peats - I assume overskim is where you skim on top of existing plaster/paint, as opposed to skimming onto new boards?

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

Steve - thanks The painter has just done the bedroom ceiling and that doesn't look too good either. I just don't understand the plasterer. I'm in SE1

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

Thanks for all the comments. I guess reskimming it is the best option but it will have to wait for a bit, there's no way the wife would let me do it now. From what you've all said, it should be a fairly quick job and not too messy, so when I'm back in the good books, I can move our stuff out...

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

and sorry - to be clear, no, he hasnt snagged it with easi fill yet. he did some filling after the mist coat but this was at night (which i thought was daft but he was trying to help out because the painter was here moaning that he couldnt get on with the ceilings). he has offered to come...

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

thanks for the replies. i understand that it will take ages and be very messy to snag using easi fill, but i guess my question was is it possible to improve the finish. i know that a reskim is the sensible option, but if that cant be done, if the situation can be improved with easi fill i...

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

The plaster doesnt crack because the windows are fixed. I really appreciate the thoughts but I'm afraid getting it re-skimmed is a no go because of all the upheaval. Here are some pictures of the work - it's difficult to take good pictures but to put this into perspective these are photos...

    Ceiling plastering nightmare

Thanks for the advice. The ceiling is about 8 metres by 4 metres. I can't have it reskimmed for a number of reasons. First, I have floor to ceiling glass windows and the ceiling (having already been reskimmed once) is now below the level of the windows. I know that a plasterer could...
