    Over-bath shower - Edging Strip?

I bought a small-ish, purpose-made triangular section of plastic from B&Q many years ago which was designed to block the gap left between wall and shower curtain. It came with two strips that you stuck to the wall and bath and then the main section clipped into place. Not sure if they still...

Twin tuner Freesat any one got one

Is there any reason why you want Freesat over Freeview ? IMO, Freesat is only worth having over Freeview if a conventional TV aerial is not an option where you live or you live in a poor Freeview signal area. Whilst Freesat looks like it has far more channels on the face of it, when you...

Sound quality difference between SD and HD....

Audio from the Freeview HD channels is noticeably quieter than their SD equivalents on both my Panasonic plasma and my Humax PVR. I think it's a widespread problem. Once you turn it up though, it does sound clearer and better quality to my ears. I have both hooked up to a fairly powerful AV...

"Which?" Best Buy Panasonic Viera TX-P42S20

That's an LCD TV, not a plasma like the S20 you first linked to. If it's a plasma you want, the 2011 replacement for the S20 was the S30 which you might still be able to find for a decent price, but not from John Lewis. The only 2012 42" Panasonic plasma that John Lewis currently sell in...

    HD to old tv

You can pick up a lot of the free channels with a Sky box and no subscription, but there are some that you can't unless you have an active card - possibly Ch4. and/or 5 and their derivatives IIRC, from the last time I tried this. There is a subtle difference between channels that are Free To...

    HD to old tv

If your area is going to be 'changed to HD', then I'm presuming this is referring to Freeview and not Freesat/Sky, as both of these have broadcast HD channels to the whole of the UK for years AFAIK. If you only have a Sky dish for your TV signals, then the Freeview/DSO won't affect you...

how to improve my current sound set up

[/url] That's a great suggestion ! andypotter - some TV's allow audio/video output via a scart socket (to allow recording of the TV's internal tuner by external recording devices presumably) so you might be able to use this option (if your TV has it) to output audio.

how to improve my current sound set up

What is the exact problem ? A headphone jack from the TV isn't ideal as it isn't a 'line level' output like a pair of aux RCA audio outputs, but you should be able to get something reasonable from it if you play around with the headphone volume I would have thought - you might have to turn it...

    Painting an outdoor dog run

I agree with that - sanding down and treating with wood stain will be less work, last a lot longer and look better too IMO. I would use a good quality, water repellent, organic-based wood preserver.

Using Paving slabs as a patio boundary

I would use concrete if you want to do it properly. The pavingexpert site that wrathkeg linked to gives a few suggestions of how to do it : http://www.pavingexpert.com/featur06.htm If you've got a large patio, you might want to think about hiring/borrowing a cement mixer.

    Novice contemplating garden gate. Help!

^ great advice - that's how I'd do it. The only thing I'd add is that once you've drilled the holes in the timber for the frame fixings, it's a good idea to use a countersink drill bit to ensure that your screw-heads don't stick out.

    Novice contemplating garden gate. Help!

A regular corded drill will be fine - hammer action will help with drilling into masonry, but often not needed for drilling into mortar as it's softer. Depending on the thickness of your post, you'll either need some heavy duty raw plugs and long (size 12) screws, or heavy duty wall anchor...
