Obvious now you say it. Will try tomorrow. Thanks.

Pop-up bath waste - can't remove control knob

Hmm if I zoom in on that I'm not seeing a circlip. A small O ring maybe. It looks like the knob just pushes onto that square section shaft on which there's a couple of protruding tabs that secures it. I guess I'm just not being aggressive enough with it, but I really don't wanna crack my tub...

Pop-up bath waste - can't remove control knob

I'll give the hot water idea a go, might as well add a scald to the chisel slash across my wrist :) After that it's either a hub puller jerry-rigged somehow or try and get in behind with a padsaw and hack the thing to bits and replace with new. You mean like this? There really isn't a grub...

Pop-up bath waste - can't remove control knob

Definitely no grubscrew. The damn thing still will not shift. Cant get a purchase on it with a wrench. I've tried prising it off with a chisel, then tried hitting the chisel with a hammer when that didn't work. It's moved a few mm perhaps but the hammer just produced cracking noises which made...

Pop-up bath waste - can't remove control knob

Dumb noob alert - I need to remove and re-fit my bath overflow and pop-up control as it's become loose in the hole. Unfortunately try as I might I cannot get the big chrome control knob off. It doesn't have a grub screw so I assume it's just a push fit - but it will not budge. I'm wary of...

Troubleshoot dead Indesit WG820 washing machine...?

Thanks. I had a poke around inside but couldn't find anything looking amiss at all. Gave up, hit the classifieds and within a few hours picked up a superb condition Electrolux Aqualux 1000 for £40. Will stick the Indesit on Freecycle or bin it. The throw-away society eh?

Troubleshoot dead Indesit WG820 washing machine...?

Washer is dead on switching on. Have changed fuse to no effect. I guess there are any number of things it could be, but are there any straightforward things to have a look at? I have no appliance repair experience but don't mind taking stuff apart and I have a multimeter. Any help appreciated!

Problem fitting hot cylinder take-off flange

Hi folks hope someone can advise me here: I'm trying to fit a Techflange to my hot water cylinder (open system) to feed a shower pump. To do this I need to drill a hole in the side of the tank a couple of inches below the top seam. Problem is I can't get the immersion heater out in order...

    Hot cylinder vent pipe

Glad I asked then! :D I came to the conclusion over the weekend that I can in fact take the vent across the void above the bathroom to the new tank and keep it rising all the way to the correct height above the new cistern as per the above installation guide. So I'm binning the old tank...

    Hot cylinder vent pipe

Oops yes I see what you mean  Thank you for that! I'll put the new tank at the same level as the old and tee into the existing supply to the cylinder from the old tank as leakydave suggested above. Fingers crossed flow to the pump will suffice.

    Hot cylinder vent pipe

Thread resurrection... Project has been on hold for a few weeks but it's crunch time now. Are there any show-stopping technical or legal reasons why I cannot vent a hot cylinder to a loft tank which has a mains supply and overflow but which is otherwise unused? I need a new tank to feed a...

Removing chipboard floor - best tool for job?

I'm replacing a warped and swollen chipboard bathroom floor. The new floor will be ceramic tiles over plywood on joists. The boards go under the walls on three sides of the room - what is the best way to cut right up to the edge of the wall? I thought of some sort of mini circular saw blade...

Help plumbing in new bathroom pump please

It will be in the airing cupboard, right next to the cylinder - the cupboard occupies a corner of the room. See the small plan view in top right of drawing. It's tight in there though, with the soil pipe on one side (not shown) and the hot cylinder on the other. I think/hope with a couple of...

Help plumbing in new bathroom pump please

Can someone advise please on how best to connect my new pump to the bath and basin in this very small bathroom: As you see the existing supplies are underfloor, but the outlet from the pump will be significantly above floor level. There is very little space to turn the pipework back down...
