What do to with old flue?

Thanks Pete, yes its the liner I was going to remove (although I may just hack the end off if it gets it out of the way!). So once removed can I cap the top of the chimney and leave the bottom open or will it need a proper flow?

What do to with old flue?

Hi all, I've just had our old back boiler and fire removed and a new combi installed elsewhere. Since this is a seldom used room, I plan on turning the old fireplace into a small cupboard, however my problem is what to do with the the old flue? I assume the thing was installed after the...

Entering an inspection hole from Sink

Hi Hugh, thanks for the reply. The pipe from the manhole comes up from the bottom of the picture and does a 90 degree into the house at the manhole so there is nothing to T into unfortunately, I did consider your suggestion to the right of the hole but I don't much fancy digging down that far...

Entering an inspection hole from Sink

Hi all! I've a project that I've meaning to get to for some time but I keep coming back to exactly how I should do the job. The situation is that a previous owner converted the garage into a laundry room / gym. The exit from the sink and washing machine is taken through the side of the garage...

Shower Cable Rating - Slightly Different!

Hi Guys, I've got an 8.5Kw shower which I need to replace - all good shouldn't be a problem (ha-ha)... I looked at the breaker and its 40amp, checked the cable exiting the box and its 10mm. Great, a 9.5Kw shower will be nice upgrade. Now the problem is I've just come to fit the thing and...

    Advise on HW control

Well I'd like to thank everyone for their input, I completed the project at the weekend and I'm extreamly pleased with it (and myself as I have no leaks lol) For the first time I have proper control over the heating! I can now set just the CH to come on and where as before it would take...

    Advise on HW control

That's pretty much my thoughts. In the electronics world nothing is lasting for anywhere near as long as the predecessors did as everything is built down to a stupidly low cost - It seems to be the same with most sectors these days!

    Advise on HW control

Correct, deffo after the branch! I'm not blocking any pipe from the boiler to the vent pipe. The majority of internet postings seem to suggest the feed as opposed to the return as the better of the two pipes to attach the valve to which suits me as the return would be significantly more awkward...

    Advise on HW control

Thankyou! I have no idea on the sizing, especially as the flow is 28 and the return is 22 which surely limits the 28 to 22 anyway? The flow pipe comes from the boiler, into the loft and T's up and into/over the water tank and down and into the cylinder - its on this run (T to cylinder) that...

    Advise on HW control

Thanks Stem, that's really usefull as it shows me exactly what I'm missing - basically one two port valve. I've discovered the boiler is a GlowWorm 25-2 and whilst the closest match on their website is 45-4 the installers guide looks to be roughly the same unit but nobody panic, I'm assuming...

    Advise on HW control

Hi all, I've got an old(-ish 1997) back boiler system that heats a tank of hot water by gravity and a pumped central heating system. At the moment the HW system is on every time the CH system is on and as everything that uses hot water is electrical it heats up daily for no reason at all. I...
