Hi all, I've just had our old back boiler and fire removed and a new combi installed elsewhere.

Since this is a seldom used room, I plan on turning the old fireplace into a small cupboard, however my problem is what to do with the the old flue?

I assume the thing was installed after the house was originally built so presumably can be hauled either down or up to remove it but then what?

If you're talking about the old copex liner, then it can be removed. It may cause a bit of a mess when pulling it out though. More important is to provide some ventilation to the chimney and not to close it completely. This will prevent damp problems in the chimney.

Thanks Pete, yes its the liner I was going to remove (although I may just hack the end off if it gets it out of the way!).

So once removed can I cap the top of the chimney and leave the bottom open or will it need a proper flow?
