US Green Black White cable - how to wire up in UK?

Very interesting discussion lads. Where I work, we had large single phase machines shipped over from a mother plant in the US. The guys that side shipped all the switchgear in their panels too. The sparks here were goin "what the **** is this?". They ended up dumping the US stuff and wiring it...

Insulation between gound and 1st floor?

Cheers Sandwell. I've bought myson TRVs. I reckon they're decent quality, it's a name I at least recognise from the plumbing world!

Should I just replace the shower?

Nice one Kev. I'm pretty sure the Trtion T90 that's coming out is also mains fed, so a straight swap with any luck. To my knowledge we've never had a drop in mains pressure round here so i'll leave the current setup as is. don't think i'd have a 7m head anyway, so I've no choice :D

Insulation between gound and 1st floor?

I'm just changing the rad because of the corrosion. I'll be replacing it with the same size and single panel. Interesting you said that heating engineers would design the system to be cooler upstairs....the current system was fitted by a cowboy IMHO. It was a conversion from solid fuel (back...

Should I just replace the shower?

Cheers mate. Funny you should say that about Tritons, we had one in the house I grew up in and it's still going strong, the one that has just failed on me is 5 years old. Gonna buy a mira Zest, it'll do me for my needs. I heard a Mira needs a separate small feed tank like a central heating...

Should I just replace the shower?

Hi all, Recently my Triton T90i stopped heating the water. Pressure has remained as before, i'm guessing it's the thermal safety switch and/or heater can. When I took the thing apart it struck me that the heater can is 50% of the machine! There is quite a bit of 'blackening' coming from the...

Can I fit a TRV to either end of the rad?

Hi all, I wish to add a TRV to a rad. Can I stick it on either end of the rad to restrict the flow in or out? Does it make a difference? Cheers for your help lads.

I'm curious, coul someone explain this...

The earths at all the fittings do go back to the CU earth strip, I ohmed them out. I am going to fit screwcaps in any case, for aesthetics but I can appreciate the need for them 'just in case'. It's a bit of a shame about no earths though, I quite liked the look of a polished aluminium switch I...

Insulation between gound and 1st floor?

Thanks for the replies lads. I decided to fit TRVs to both upstairs rads (and discovered plenty fo corrosion at the rad inlet threads on the larger rad). Going to replace the rad and fit the valves and see how I get on. I still feel like I may have to work with my insulation but we'll see...

Insulation between gound and 1st floor?

Hi all, I have a problem with my heating. The house is always cold downstairs and warm upstairs. It's a 3 bed dormer bungalow. The rads are all perfectly fine (as far as I can tell) and belt out heat, but it seems to dissipate so easily. I have double glazing all round and the house is dry...

I'm curious, coul someone explain this...

At the pendant, the earth was not in any choc-block, just two green&yellow cores twisted together and shoved up into the rose. Pretty poor looking. I'll jhave to double check the wall lights-they used bare conductor into chock-block along with the live and neutrals, can't recall seeing more than...

I'm curious, coul someone explain this...

Yeah, all single cores everywhere. None at the pattress box as it's plastic as was the switch (and replacement) or else the original installer did run an earth but not with green&yellow maybe? There is an earth at all 3 fittings (though for some reason the previous installation of pendant did...

I'm curious, coul someone explain this...

Hi all, great forum. Today I went to B&Q and bought 2 new wall lights and a pendant light. I took the old fittings down and did a straight swap (including new 2-gang switch as the old one was looking a bit tired). The lights are working fine, but I'd like to know what I did! Ok, This setup...
