We are going to; have our HSL repainted have new airing cupboard doors (made and fitted (the airing cupboard is on the landing) What's the right order to do this in? Should we get the doors fitted without paint and then painted with the HSL, or she we paint the HSL, then get the doors fitted...

Cupped floorboards - Source of moisture above or below floor?

@tel765 Thanks for this. Ventilation is definitely something I want to look into. We have three airblocks on one side of house, though I have no idea whether they have been blocked off anywhere along the cavity that they connect to (I can totally imagine a crazy DIY choice by previous owners...

Fit extractor fans now if getting new kitch/bathroom in 5 years?

In my new house there are no extractor fans in the kitchen or bathroom. We can't afford to get a new kitchen or bathroom right now but in 5 years or so we might be able to. If we get someone to fit extractor fans now can it be done in such a way that someone fitting a new kitchen or bathroom...

    Can I paint over this?

I am a new house owner (my first!). The heated towel rack has painted pipes leading into it, but these bits pictured have not been painted. Can I paint over them or is there a good reason why I shouldn't? If I can, what kind of paint should I use? Thank you!

Cupped floorboards - Source of moisture above or below floor?

Cupped floorboards - Source of moisture above or below floor?

Thanks foxhole, but the cupping is so bad that you can see the floorboards through the carpet and can feel with your feet. Maybe I just need thicker, better quality carpets!

Cupped floorboards - Source of moisture above or below floor?

Thanks foxhole, that's reassuring. From the answers here I'm thinking I should check the moisture levels below the floorboards to ensure there's not currently excessive moisture, screw the boards down to stop squeaking and then sand the cupped boards to level. In your opinion would that be a...

Cupped floorboards - Source of moisture above or below floor?

The issue I have a 1970s house that I moved into 9 months ago. The floorboards in all rooms upstairs squeak and are all cupped, apart from one which is crowned. Some (but not all) of the stairs floorboards are NOT cupped or crowned. There is moisture in the house However I know that the rooms...

    Holes in house!

I’ve just bought my first house. As you can see from the photos below, there are lots of holes in the cement between bricks, holes where there were screws attaching things and some gaps between windows and brickwork and some cracks in the bricks. Do I need to get these filled/sorted ? If so...
