Light dims when shower switched on - voltage drop?

Thank you both. May I ask 2 questions please? 1. Is it safe to wire a bathroom light into a shower circuit, assuming that a poor connection is not the issue? (presumably yes but just checking) 2. Does anything about this issue suggest that the installation was done by someone who isn't an...

Light dims when shower switched on - voltage drop?

Hi all, I wondered if I could please ask a question re: an electric shower. When turning it on, the bathroom light dims/flickers once. It doesn't stay dimmed while it is on, only as the power button is pressed, so presumably it's not voltage drop but could be wrong. I assume it's safe enough but...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Would anyone know if the ongoing odours could be caused by push fittings not being tight enough? There's still a faint smell but it seems worse after emptying a sink full of hot water... I'm wondering if the hot water is perhaps causing pipes to expand/contract even slightly, which would let out...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thanks both, very helpful. Funnily enough, that seems to be the case. It's not in the attic of a house though, but in a detached garage. Have found the planning for it on the council's database as a garage but nothing that approved it to be converted and rented out privately... Also no water...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

I promised an update, and thanks again for your advice. LL has attended, a few weeks after my last post, finally to fit a new AAV (please see attached photo). However, there are still faint odours every now and then, which I suspect might be because the pipework might not be airtight. I now...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thank you, that makes sense. I'll mention it and hopefully it'll be straightforward enough to replace. Have also noticed that the shower has started gurgling when the sink is emptied, so hoping LL will take a look at that too. Cheers again, will update on here after it's been resolved (fingers...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thank you all, LL had a look and said it needed a trap for the washing machine waste, so fitted one – all is good there and no more overpowering sewage smells. Weirdly though, the AAV is still emitting a faint odour, only just noticable but definitely there. Should this be happening at all, even...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Hi all, thank you again for your help on this a few weeks ago. LL has since refitted the waste pipes (no more leaks) and added an anti-syphon trap to the sink so it doesn't gurgle. I think you're probably right re: blockage though ,so I checked the manhole...but it looks clear. Water comes...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thanks all, really helpful again. Weirdly enough, I just had a look and it doesn't seem to even be a push-fit connection... it looks like there's some kind of connector inbetween. I assume this is standard practice, but I don't understand why a male to female connection wasn't used. I guess this...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

It appears the toilet waste pipe has started leaking again, as it has before – this is surely likely to be the sympton of a clog somewhere. Have reported this but was put down to the push-fit coming apart slightly, hence the paper to catch/dry up any other drips. I'm going to report it again but...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thanks once again, that's very reassuring to know. Sorry to drag this up again, but I've noticed the bathroom smells bad after running the washing machine. Would this be linked to any potential aforementioned clog? This has been happening since I moved in, although I'd initially put it down to...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

That makes perfect sense, thank you for explaining. Would a backed up toilet be an even bigger problem if the AAV is not 6" above the highest flood level? It's currently positioned a good few inches below the top of the toilet bowl... I'm unsure if the 6" height requirement is to prevent floods...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

I live in a separate building on LL’s property so not really able to. I’ll have to report it again and ask to look myself . AAV makes a rumbling sound after draining the sink, then flushing the toilet a few mins later. LL said only to worry if the toilet bowl fills and doesnt drain but, if it's...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thank you both. It's a fair point re: charging, but only moved in 5 months ago and have reported a few times over the last 3-4 months, so I'd imagine it's become a bigger problem then it was initially... Really at this stage I'd accept a financial hit to get it sorted though, it's not going to...

    Gurgling drains – likely cause?

Thanks once again CBW. It's difficult to know as I dont think LL suspects that it's a clog. I should add that the join between the two elbow bends was dripping a week or so ago, which I thought could be to water sitting in the pipes because of slow draining/a clog. It's been repositioned though...
