    identifying connection on new Cylinder

Thanks for the suggestions. it's a Newark Cylinder - there's no mention of it on their website, or on the tank certification stickers. It does have two 10(?)mm sensor pockets for push in sensors. But this is much bigger, threaded and an opening into the tank.

    identifying connection on new Cylinder

I've got a new twin coil cyclinder for a solar installation. In between the connections for the boiler, there's a female threaded boss into the tank. It looks about 18mm. What's it for? The boiler connections are in the middle of the tank which is 1800 tall. The solar connections are...

    solar - direct or indirect

Sorry, I forgot it was a drain down system. Still think it's not the best idea. As an aside, I'm suprised at the number of flat panels being marketed when the evacuated tubes are so much more efficient.

    Renault and Peugeot reliability

For a short time, I drove a wide variety of Renault products as a fleet delivery driver. They did seem to have more faults on new cars than others I drove. However, a few years ago Renault did have a mojor push on quality, and I think that new products from Renault are now much better than...

    solar - direct or indirect

To get the best out of solar, you need to be able to extract as much heat as possible. The solartwin design takes the output from the panel and pumps it into the hottest part of the storage tank. Since you can only extract energy from the system when the input from the panel is hotter than...

    Renault and Peugeot reliability

The JD Power survey is a fair pointer to customer satisfaction. Most cars today have more than 1 year factory warranty, so I would expect that either car you look at would still be within warranty? Just get assurance from the dealer that the warranty is still intact (have ALL the services...

    car insurance

I know this sounds odd but, if you look at what the insurance is for; it's to make sure that you don't suffer loss after an EVENT. The event in this case is FIRE. So; your insurance will attempt to put you in the position you (your son) was in before the event. The cause of the fire (wiring...

    Comparative roofing costs

Coo! talk about a quick reply! Thanks for the basic tile figure, now I have something to compare with. The whole grant thing makes me feel somewhat frustrated. I'm in the middle of fitting solar water; and I found that sourcing the components myself, and then using a plumber to do the...

    Comparative roofing costs

I'm planning an extension with a south facing pitched roof. Can anyone point me to a costs comparitor for different roof finishes? Concrete tiles will match existing. Copper (£!) will look fantastic PV solar would be enough to grid connect. OK, so I know that the last two will be more...

    Increasing the loft insulation

The loft insulation in our house is approx 150mm laid in between the 100mm ceiling joists. which are just a bit further apart than the width of the rolls that were used. So there's a small gap along each row. I want to increase the insulation, and to store stuff in the roof. So I'm concerned...

I have a wind turbine, how should I heat my property,

If it's 5Kw at peak and less at other times, that isn't going to do a lot for heating the house most of the time. How windy does it have to be to give 5Kw?, what's the daily average output across the heating season? One of the problems with an existing radiator system, is that it needs...

    Rover 25 cam overrun?

Ask for a description of what cam over run is. As far as I know it is a description of the part of the cam lobe which does no work. So in terms of a problem, I'm unaware of what cam over run is. Maybe the camshaft is badly worn? (edited) just re-read your posting. If it's in the...

    bigger tank = more flow?

We've got a power shower. Works fine for us. But when No1 son and his girl friend came to stay, I got a complaint. "Why did the shower just stop?" Turns out that if you have a long shower, you can exhaust the cold tank pretty quickly. Can't work out why me on my own takes a lot less...

water in bathroom ceiling light - help please

If it's Leashold - tell the landlord/freeholder whatever. This problem may have a knock on efect with the structure of the building etc etc. If you have a group freehold ownership, call an emergency meeting. Also tell you insurance company now to alert them to the problem and possible...
