Many, many thanks for help. It all makes sense and will go with baby ridges and hip irons. I think I prefer brown tiles to the reddy/orange colour you see on a lot of new and old houses these days. They stand out too much for me.

I thought he said cement or concrete and not baby ridge tiles but i'll check with him. Have you ever heard of cement/concrete being used instead of baby ridge as that is what is currently on the bay... not a ridge tile in sight!!

The first thing I did was check the gutters and drain pipes and all seem clear and in good working condition. There actually is a small crack in the render on the outside wall but nowhere near the corner where the patch is. It's strange as I have no other damp issues...

The house is from around 1880-90 which i've recently purchased. the wall is the far corner wall of the property and it is end of terrace. I'm guessing from your assesment of the material that it is not the original wall/material??
