OK so the live wire screwdriver tester is useless. I only use it to identify which wire is live, which is all that can be done with it anyway and in this case as already stated, both N and L wires were causing the useless instrument to glow, which I thought was odd as I was only expecting the L...

So am I correct in thinking the induced voltage could be due to a fault in the switch causing a magnetic anomaly. I have not retested the live and neutral since bypassing the switch and wiring them to the block connector, but I will test them when I install a new switch. Electricity is so much fun.

Hi and thanks for the fast replies. The bathroom has two rads, both with thermostats so would it be OK to keep one of them permanently ON and close down the hall rad.

Just had a new Baxi Duo-tec Combi 28 HE A boiler fitted by NPower. The hall radiator is the only one that has no thermostat and can't be turned off. We don't normally have this radiator on, but the gas safe installer said it needs to be on all the time the boiler is running to protect the boiler...

The outlet plates along with metal channel will be fixed to the brick wall and then plastered over. I will of course connect the earths. So is this good to go?
