    Squeaky deck

The other thing I'm very nervous about is trimming the overhang on the deck boards! Anyone got a good way to do this? My fascia board is attached to.

    Squeaky deck

Cheers Freddie, I was debating when starting out whether to use concrete/slabs in the base, but just bit the bullet and went with the gravel. I've gone out there this morning now after we had a bit of rain last night and the creaking seems to be gone...the last few boards we laid were a bit...

    Squeaky deck

Hey all, Relatively novice diy'er here attacking some ground level decking in my garden. Things are all going good so far with only the last board to cut and put down, the overlaps to trim and handrails to set on the little decorative balustrade we have. With regards to the boards as I say...

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Im only thinking its more the individual t+e cables to go through the hole in the fitting as it doesn't look like there is much slack on the 3 cables coming through the ceiling.

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Thanks Taylor, that seems to be the best option. I'll widen the hole in the fitting to 20mm. Just to be completely clear, the actual 3 core flex would be outside the fitting? And I'd just be running the individual t+e wires into the 20mm hole (with an open grommet fitted), connecting them up...

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Cool.. Thanks again for the help all will give this a go. One last thing, looking at a few tutorial type videos on YouTube, this one caught my eye as it pretty much exactly what I was planning to do: In this video he uses lever wago connectors and puts them back into the ceiling void, without...

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Thanks again for the help guys... So I've ordered that drill bit as that's quite handy to have! Plus 20mm open grommets... So same plan as before then, except instead of putting anything in the ceiling void, the waygos and the new flex between them and the new light, will be enclosed in the...

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Thanks for the advise Taylor, that's a good idea - Id just be a bit worried making things worse whilst trying to widen the hole in the fitting! So just for my understanding and subject to the size of the hole behind the ceiling rose - is it bad practice, or even worse - dangerous, to have the...

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Thanks for the reply Rocky. The light is in the downstairs toilet and there is no room with a floor above, just the outside roof. Does that make any difference or do you just mean the fact there are loose wagos in the ceiling? That's a good idea about the fitting, so you mean instead of...

Replacing light fitting with new LED light

Hi all, Wondering if I could just get a bit of guidance for wiring a new light if that's okay as it would be my first time doing it! I know saying that alone is enough to make most people on here squirm, I have tried to do quite a bit of research and think I know what to do. So I've attached...

Leaking hot tap - isolation valve?

Hey Madrab, Thanks for the advice. So at the moment it is just leaking out of the tap. I've attached a pic of the sink itself, the taps do turn fully so I assume it's just the rubber washer. This is what my partners dad said has perished I believe, I may have misheard him when he said sealing...

Leaking hot tap - isolation valve?

Thanks for the reply John - Yeah we've got a combi boiler. So I suppose as there is no isolation valve nothing can really be done temporarily to stop the leak apart from turning the main water supply off! Guess I'll have to put up with it for a day or to before having a go at trying to replace...

Leaking hot tap - isolation valve?

Hi all, Bit of a DIY newbie here. I've got a leaking hot tap in my downstairs toilet. My partners dad was able to take a look yesterday and said that the rubber washer had gone and to get a sealant kit to fix it, I'm going to try and give this a go over the next few days when I have chance. In...

Installing plug socket where boiler controls were

Thanks both for your replies, really appreciate the links ban-all-sheds will definitely check them out! Taylortwocities - you're right, it was done by a plumber! I'll try and get some more pictures soon, on our consumer unit we have a switch to turn off the power to the downstairs sockets, I...
