Marley Modern or Redland Renown for 60’s bungalow roof replacement

Ah I see, thanks for the insight. Yes I like the look of them, the fact they break easily is concerning though - durability is the most important thing to me! So I think that probably swings it for the profile tiles for me.

Marley Modern or Redland Renown for 60’s bungalow roof replacement

Interesting - what is it about them that puts you off?

Marley Modern or Redland Renown for 60’s bungalow roof replacement

In-roof is something I’ve considered, but on balance I feel on-roof is the safer option - in-roof panel systems aren’t really standardised in the same way, so if they need replacing it might be difficult to get like for like. There’s also fewer installer options, and the small hit to efficiency...

Marley Modern or Redland Renown for 60’s bungalow roof replacement

I’m currently deciding what tile to go for to replace the existing Redland 49’s on my 60’s bungalow. I think I’ve narrowed it down to either the Marley Modern (or possibly the Duo version) or Redland Renown. I prefer the look of the Marley Modern, but having done some research, it sounds like...

    Advice on re-roofing and chimney

Thanks, yeah I might have been unclear - there actually already is PIR board insulation that was added as part of the loft conversion that was put in, and I think it (just about) meets the minimum requirements. Attached some pics from both the eaves of the conversion where the “old” roof is...

    Advice on re-roofing and chimney

Thanks for the advice! Yes, I think the previous owners just did the extension as cheaply as possible - it’s just bog standard membrane under the tiles, and as for the old section of roof, its very old felt that’s rotting away. The loft conversion part really struggles with overheating in...

    Advice on re-roofing and chimney

Looking for some advice on doing a full re-roof of my 60s bungalow. There’s still a bit of life left in it, but I’m keen to get solar panels sooner rather than later, and am planning additional works at the same time (installing a new Velux and a few solar tunnels). So off the back of this, I’m...

    Levelling ground for semi-permanent decking

The bifold doors at the back of my property currently open up directly onto the grass of the garden. In the longer term, I’m likely to get a proper patio or decking installed by professionals. However, I’m wanting to install something myself as a short term solution to do me for a few years. I’m...

Is it worth adding pipe lagging to loft eaves pipes?

I’ve discovered these pipes in the eaves of my loft conversion: As far as I can tell, these pipes are going to and from a lone radiator in the loft. The roof itself does seem to have some partial PIR insulation installed, but it van still get quite cold in the eaves. In my previous property...

Sanity check on builder quote for floor levelling and DPM installation

I suspect it is seeping up through the concrete floor - the garage to the side of the property (at a slightly lower elevation) has had wet floors throughout the recent heavy rain. The property is an early-mid 60’s bungalow (not sure of the exact year of construction) which I understand is around...

Sanity check on builder quote for floor levelling and DPM installation

Yes, that would be the best option, but I understand that is much more costly. I’m really looking to do the best that can be done in a reasonable budget.

Sanity check on builder quote for floor levelling and DPM installation

Following on from another thread I posted recently, I’ve had a builder out to quote for the levelling and damp-proofing of my bitumen adhesive covered concrete floor. The damp levels in the current floor are marginal; some areas showed green on the builders damp meter, and others yellow. I’d...

Level and damp proof bedroom floors

Just a quick update on this - @jeds i tried your idea, but added to it by placing two Bluetooth temperature and humidity sensors as well - one underneath the covering, and one on top: Whilst there’s no visible condensation on the sheet, in the part of the room pictured above (that has obvious...

Wood block in cavity wall vent

Ok, good to know, thanks for the advice! I’m having other works done in that room so I might ask the builders about blocking it up at the same time.

Wood block in cavity wall vent

Interesting, it is on an outside wall, but it’s a 60s bungalow and is at the very front of the property.
