    Becoming a domestic installer

Just to update this, managed to make contact with original electrician and he’s happy to inspect and sign off my work. I’ve outlined my circuit designs, so how I’m going to split the circuits, what sized cables allowing for voltage drop and installation methods, what sized rcbos, earth rod on...

    Becoming a domestic installer

Failing my intention to do a qualification and join a CPs scheme for own personal use. Anybody have any suggestions on finding an electrician who can sign off 3rd party? I was lucky to find first one because I posted on a local group and they responded offering to help. but not had much luck...

    Becoming a domestic installer

thanks, yep I know part p is a building regulation, but for some reason the modules listed on the domestic installer course they label as part p. so I was under the impression that I needed the 3, 18th edition, the part p qualification and inspection and testing to join a CPS.

thanks, Long term I am not intending on using a short course for doing work for potential customers because I agree, long term want to get into renewables so I will need full qualifications. But for some personally owned property, need a short term solution I can use to get work signed off...

    Becoming a domestic installer

thanks, I have looked into 18th edition, sparkyninja does his own course I was thinking of taking. but understand I still need inspection and testing, and part p also which he doesn’t do courses on. so may need to just do a complete course.

    Becoming a domestic installer

Hi, thank you in advance! I expect that I may get some criticism, I don’t consider myself an electrician, but I’m willing to learn and gain qualifications. Long term I want to do the full scope of electrical qualifications so that I can claim to be fully qualified. short time however I have...

1930s Semi Detached Bungalow - Suspended Floor

would mostly just be the exterior insulation, ceilings are coming down because it’s lath and plaster. So intention is to put up 50mm PIR insulation, then plasterboard over the top of that. then in the loft install more PIR between the roof timbers which should give about 200mm insulation...

1930s Semi Detached Bungalow - Suspended Floor

Thanks I will review looking into external wall insulation again first. insulation is definitely a route I’d like to try and go down, not me paying the bills but very much want to try and keep tenants bills down, also considering solar panels eventually because its massively come down in...

1930s Semi Detached Bungalow - Suspended Floor

True, you have good points! Thanks this is the other thing, if I don’t do it, it would rule out any future possibility of being able to install something like MVHR, should the tenants create a mould issue from drying clothes internally. I could always look into doing the external insulation...

    Bricklaying

Hi, is there a rule about not using wet bricks when brick laying? never done brick laying before, but had a go today and bricks had been outside for weeks and soaking wet. I mixed up the cement so it wasn’t dry but also wasn’t runny, it stayed on the bricks without falling off when buttering...

    Internal wall insulation regs

Upgrading insulation in floors and walls and roofs is notifiable. Odd thing is though I just asked for a price and the building control didn’t seem interested in the floor or loft insulation. just gave me a price for exterior insulation. only part of floor they was interested in was upgrading...

    Chimney breast removal

Got a semi detached bungalow, neither chimney is attached to the party wall, the chimney goes in between the roof timbers and doesn’t interfere with the roof joists or structure at all and neither chimney acts as a buttress for a wall. just goes straight up between the roof joists and timbers...
