New conservatory - remove external render before dry-lining?

I know that one section by the edge of the patio door is loose, not sure of the condition of the rest because I can't see it. Generally though, over the house as a whole, its blown here and there, sound in the majority though.

New conservatory - remove external render before dry-lining?

Hello all, I've had a quote for a new conservatory (rear of house). The plan seems to be to leave the current external render in place, put a wooden frame against it (I think) and dry-line the wall. I've just had the render replaced on the front of the house, the render on the rear is in...

    Gravel driveway sub-base (drainage)

So how permeable is type 1, knowing it's not likely to be as permeable as type 3?

    Gravel driveway sub-base (drainage)

Thanks. I wasn't actually clear in my original post, my concern was about the permeability of type 1 - I would imagine most gravel driveways have been laid with type 1 historically, without much flooding trouble?

    Gravel driveway sub-base (drainage)

Hello all, I'm getting a driveway replaced with gravel - should the sub-base be type 1 or type 3, or does it not matter a great deal for gravel? I'm mainly concerned with drainage/permeability issues... My builder seems to think type 1 will be fine (and I do think he's speaking from...

    Gravel driveway / house foundations

Hello all, I'm thinking about getting a gravel driveway to replace our old crazy paving, to avoid planning permission due to drainage issues etc. The drive is virtually flat and we do currently have an issue with minor (couple of inches) flooding in the middle, during heavy rain. How close...

Cavity trays - should I fit them?

Hello all, I have a flat-roofed porch against a rendered cavity wall at the front of my house. Due to leaks/cracks and it's general appearance/condition, I'm getting the render replaced (it's 44 years old, so it's not had a bad innings). The plasterer has suggested replacing the lead...

Typical lifespan of concrete render and lead flashing?

//www.diynot.com/network/riph72/albums/ Take a look in the Rendering & Flashing album - you can see the general flashing condition in the two pics over the porch, plus a tiny crack is visible. The pic over the window isn't a problem area, but I include it because there is a larger crack...

Typical lifespan of concrete render and lead flashing?

Hello all, At the front of my house I have a flat-roofed porch, which had a new felt roof fitted about a year ago. But I am now seeing slight leakage at the junction between the porch and the main building, which is covered with rendered concrete. The roofer who fitted the new felt roof...

    Boiler change - TRVs also?

Further thoughts - I do appreciate your point though, that even with the doors open throughout the house, you can still get a hotspot in some rooms. I'll give this some thought... funnily enough, the more I think about it, I'm actually starting to lean towards just getting TRVs put everywhere...

    Boiler change - TRVs also?

What I meant was - I'd use TRVs in the bedrooms where they (from experience in my last house, which was smaller but a similar open-plan style) do tend to overheat a bit, but I might not use TRVs in e.g. the lounge/dining room/hallway/landing, because due to the open-plan nature of the house...
