Dishwashers - Miele or De Dietrich?

We're considering two dishwashers for our kitchen/diner and wanted a really quiet one. The two we've narrowed it down to are: 1. Miele G1222SCi at 46dB (approx £750) and 2. De Dietrich DVH754X at 41dB (also approx £750) Problem is, though I know lots about Miele and their great...

Cost of laying Porcelain Travertine-Look floor tiles

I'm looking to lay porcelain travertine floor tiles in a new extension. What kind of price per metre should I bank on to have someone lay about 55 square metres of these tiles onto a floor that has already been screeded (over underfloor heating)?

Ventilation - legal alternative to trickle vents?

I'm replacing existing Crittall Windows and also building an extension to which I'll be adding windows. I'll be fitting Aluminium windows in both cases. Can anyone tell me what options, other than trickle vents, are legally viable methods for ventilation in each situation above (i.e...

    Unvented Cylinders

Not worth it at the moment, I agree. It was solely a consideration so I might have the option to retro-fit in the future.

    Unvented Cylinders

Hmm, it's hard work this - I just keep going around in circles. But then it's always said that if you ask 10 heat engineers you'll get 10 different answers. Advantages to all solutions so I've got yet more considering to do. I was really considering a heat bank. The DPS Pandora. There...

    Unvented Cylinders

Thanks Nixt. I did mention Solar on a previous thread I started on the EcoTec 937. Solar won't link to it as you allude to but another seasoned poster said they couldn't understand the obsession with solar as it was totally un-viable from a financial sense (at the moment). I know it will...

    Unvented Cylinders

Ah. So to clarify, I'd be more than happy with a larger outlay if it saved fuel bills in the long term. I just get the feeling that heating-on-demand (a-la EcoTec 937) will be more efficient than storage....but I don't KNOW that - it's just a gut feeling.

    Unvented Cylinders

I have some questions on unvented storage cylinders. 1. Is a particular make more thermally efficient that the others? ie less heat loss 2. Is a particular make more "intelligent" that the others? ie links to/talks to the rest of the system to operate more efficiently 3. Are there...

    Vaillant EcoTec 937

Yup, thought so. You see, that's my only real concern about this system. It's just that as gas prices rise and solar becomes a more viable option (indeed it may even become essential to save on extortionate heating bills) then I'd like to have the option to retrofit. Might have to go back...

    Vaillant EcoTec 937

So......the Vaillant EcoTec 937. Is it similar to a Heat Bank? Whilst accepting that the 937 works as a standard combi in many ways, I understand that it has a pre-store of hot water water that it mixes with the output from the boiler itself. This is as opposed to a standard heat bank...

    Efficiency of Heat Banks

Thanks everyone; replies generating good debate. I'm leaning a little towards a heat bank at the moment for the additional reason that solar panels can be connected. That may or may not be an economical option at the moment but if the technology becomes cheaper (mass production) and more...

    Efficiency of Heat Banks

Hi Tony So are you saying that a combi would be the most efficient solution? Should I consider using 2 x combi boilers as the house will have 1 x bath, 2 x showers plus kitchen, utility and downstairs loo? It seems to me that a single combi could suffer from reduced flow rates if demand was...

    Efficiency of Heat Banks

I'm replacing the whole heating system in a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house and am seriously considering a heat bank. What I really want to know is how efficient they are. Fuel is getting ever more expensive and I'm sure most of us will be trying to be as economical as possible in the near future...
