I used the clear poly but still get the algae.
@Honestly70 sounds like you are using a counter batten type structure (ie battens on rafters) where I fitted the poly directly onto rafters.
Something like this I presume...
36 inches = 3 feet = 914.4mm. That is wide. Is this an existing structure with timbers at those 3 foot centres ?
Is flat multiwall sheeting an option for you - those spans might be ok with a thick multiwall.
Your supplier should be able to advise.
If you are set on clear poly then I suggest you...
Just on the centres of supports, you better check with supplier. My supplier suggested supports at 500/600mm ctrs so 1m might be pushing it.
I sourced specific drill bits and jigsaw blades for plastic / plexiglass.
Might be OTT but just didn't wan't to take a chance based on price of sheets and...
Hi Pat
Yes went with 6mm solid clear and worked out well.
Purlins are 200 x 50mm @ 600 ctrs - well over-sized but I was matching in with adjoining epdm roof which is t&g on 175 x 50.
There is flex in the sheet for sure but only when handling or fixing. When in place it looks just like glass...
Concrete path and ramp is ravelling and I 'm hoping to repair and fill with a liquid screed or similar say 5mm thick or so. I have come across Ardex K 301 which might do the trick but has anyone used it or have any other suggestions please based on experience ?
Doing a lean-to car port type structure to side of house. Timber rafters at 600mm centres. 9 degrees pitch. Using 2 sheets of 3050 x 2050 6mm solid clear side by side. Obviously need to drill for washer fixings. Diam of screw is 6.3mm so plan to drill 8mm to allow for movement. I have been...
Building a lean to on side of house as a continuation of car port. 3000mm long x 4000 wide.
Going with 6mm solid polycarbonate on timber rafters at 600mm ctrs at 8 degrees approx.
Not keen on multiwall and want a cheap alternative to glass.
To minimise waste I'm placing the 2 no. 3m x 2m sheets...
Cheers. I will use glazing bars where there is a sheet to sheet joint but are those fixings ok for intermediate fixings on rafters where there is no joint. I see the button type are normally used for thicker multiwall sheets.
Yes, I have re-jigged the design and plan to go with 5mm or 6mm solid with rafters at 550mm centres.
Thinking of using these type of fixings throughout instead of glazing bars - any thoughts ?

Oversize the holes to allow...
Thanks for the helpful replies. The support structure will be timber rafters at 1m centres.
Best Glaze, when you say I need polycarbonate I presume you mean multi-wall ?
Really want to go with flat and clear if possible like glass.
If I narrowed the rafter centres could I go with solid poly or...
Thanks for reply. I have sourced nice looking grey glazing bars from OmegaBuild that can take any thickness.
The missus does'nt want either multiwall or corrugated which are both ideal for this job.
Glass is probably what I need but don't think budget will stretch hence the poly.
Just a little...
Not mad about the appearance of multi-wall polycarbonate so looking at solid clear as a cheaper solution to glass. Lean-to will be added onto end of car port and will measure approx 3m x 3m with an 8 degree fall. It's just a covered area for bins and bikes etc and perhaps a veggie table. In the...
Thanks for replies. This is the look I am after hence the T&G board. More work obviously but happy to do so.
Boards are 119 x 19 x 4.2m treated. Joints will be on joists.
Just thought that with each T&G board nailed twice to each joist at 600mm ctrs that noggins would not be needed.
Car port project currently under construction attached to side of house, 8.5m long x 3.6m wide span. 7 degree roof pitch. Joists @ 600 ctrs. As I am going with 110 x 18 t&g boards with EPDM over I believe that noggins are not required. Thoughts ?
