    Roof for the pergola

Hi All, I hope you are well. I am erecting a decent size wooden pergola ~4x4m however I haven't made my mind re type of the roof surface. The roof will by about 5x5m in size. I did cover my patio with clear (fully transparent) EzGlaze polycarbonate that does not block UV but of course I want UV...

    Wooden backdoor replacement to uPVC

I am looking at different items of the doors and these are things I am not sure what to do. 1. Hardware colour: Silver? I reckon the most common? 2. Energy Efficient Thermal Glass Upgrade Thermal Argon Upgrade Whilst every new door from Just Doors UK already conforms to the new thermal...

    Screws for door hinges?

This is a standard wooden frame and door, nothing fancy. This is the 3x2 hinge and the existing 25mm screws but what screws are these I have no idea and people at Screwfix didn't know either. I end up buying the hinge screws but this turned out it's not for doors but things like kitchen...

    Wooden backdoor replacement to uPVC

fyi I want to change for the new doors to open outwards not inwards like it is now. There is a 1cm difference between inside and outside opening so I reckon I don't need any additional buffer in place, right?

    Wooden backdoor replacement to uPVC

True. The pics only show the door frame is deeper not flush with the opening. Another round of measurements: Opening (outside) W 85.5cm H 201cm including sill/threshold Opening (inside) W 86.5cm H 200cm

    Wooden backdoor replacement to uPVC

Hi All, I am slowly preparing to replace the wooden back doors. I have taken most of the measurements. What other dimensions should I pay attention too? I think I have missed the dimensions of the opening itself. Frame H 203cm W 88cm Thickness 9cm Door H 192.5cm W 79.5cm Thickness 4.5cm...

    Door maker recommendation August 2025

Hi All, I am going to replace my old wooden back doors. What maker of UPVC doors would you recommend? On the web I can see JustDoorsUK, JustValueDoors, Doors-4U, DoorSuperStore. What should I pay attention too? In my case it does not have to be the cheapest. Thanks

Solar panels instead of a roof

In my case it is going to be difficult to achieve 35-40 degrees angle of the roof for the best solar panel performance. It looks like the angle of the roof is going to be 8-10 degrees - too flat for that. I think what I need in that case is some mounting solution to attach e.g. a rack of 3 big...

Hi All, I hope you are well. Do you know if I can install solar panels instead of a roof surface but act as one? Please advise.

    Post bases

Like you said, this is what I did on the patio. It has this base so above ground, no water can get in. The concrete goes about 40-50cm into the ground reinforced with some steel rods. I cannot get these steel bases as stainless but I have painted it with Zinc paint (3 layers). Thank you

    Post bases

So do you guys think these 5mm thick steel post bases (150mm) are sufficient for a pergola + 4 solar panels (approx. 100kg)? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324527521877 This is what I used on my patio but pergola is going to be a bit heavier due to the fact I put a roof (laminate boards and panels),

    Post bases

perhaps I exaggerate on the weight.
